Microsoft's taken yet another swipe at
Sony, and this time it's
Bill Gates that has carried out the low blow. During a recent Microsoft's investor chats, Bill Gates said
"So we've always wanted to be a company that got the benefit of the scale, going back to the beginning where we said, hey we're not a one-product company. Many of our competitors were one-product companies. Now they're not one-product companies, but Sony's just in video games, Nokia's largely just in mobile phones, IBM's largely in enterprise type software situations. And so is it a benefit to us that we work across these realms that we can expose you to the same user interface at home that you get at work? We think so. But there's a lot of execution behind taking that and getting the right things in the marketplace."
Ofcourse, someone must have mentioned to Bill Gates, that Sony also make TV's, Mobile Phones, Computers, Laptops and that's not all that Sony create.
According to Gates, plans for the Video Gaming part of Microsoft will include something that makes video gaming, not just something you do in one location (maybe a Microsoft Handsheld device is in the works..) and something that opens up new game genres (what could they possibly be?).
On to more edifying speeches from the world's most generous man. Bill's seen Web 2.0, he's seen mobile devices (and Zune), and he's seen the future. Not only does he want to deliver Microsoft Office over the web rather than have you worry about storage, he also wants to extend this notion of 'software as a service' to gaming. Here's what he had to say, "Yes, the service concept, we'll see it at the consumer end with things like Xbox Live, where signing up for contests, and being a spectator, staying in touch with your friends, that's something you're going to want to be part of.

Now that I come to think of it, maybe they meant to say Nintendo, because apart from games, I can't think of what else they do - not that being only games is a bad thing.
And Bill Gates needs to think before he speaks.
Hell, the spreadsheet and presentation software that Sony use are probably included in Microsoft Office.
While I agree that Bill's comment is absurd (I don't understand where he got the idea from), it's even more ridiculous to call Microsoft a "lazy" company.
And the last time I checked, Sony is a far richer company then Microsoft. I doubt all that came from the Playstation franchise. That just goes to show that Sony has been producing electronics for ages now and have been very successful.
I read that it generates more revenues and stuff.
Heh, looks like Illmatic beat me to the post again. But yeah I don't think he meant they only sell games. Especially since he also said "Now they're [the competitors] not one-product companies".
Xbox Handheld, it has to come in the end, doesnt it ^^
