An upcoming 'adult' game has caused controversy over its age rating.

The promotional video for We Dare, a Ubisoft title apparently to be released on the Wii and PS3 in March, shows a group of people participating in the game's challenges. As the trailer continues, they eventually smacking each other, stripping. The box, however, gives the game's age rating as 12.

The predictable outrage from parents resulted in a Ubisoft spokeswoman explaining that the game had been rated independently, and confirming that the game was aimed at adult players. At least one version of the trailer explicitly shows an 'Enter Parental Code' screen.

How the hell do the parents find out about the age rating of games before the gamers do? Last I saw this game had no rating.

I don't think they can have any excuse to having a rating of 12 on an adult game. That has to be changed, no excuses.

Or perhaps, just maybe, it isn't an 'adult' game and people are just blowing shit out of proportion as usual.

By all accounts, it is aimed at adult players.

wow, I am agreeing with you a lot lately. This is obviously blown out of proportion because it is just a video game. Maybe if it was changed Teen is would fine, but geeze, its like people think teenagers dont know anything about this stuff. If you dont want your kids playing it, then dont let them play it... ta-dah, I just solved the entire problem, my mother always told me I was smart.

Dude, if a parent didn't see the trailer and picked up the game based on the rating their 12 year old would be doing some pretty risque stuff with the Wii-remote. THAT'S where the problem is coming in.

People who don't have kids usually don't think about these things but in another 40 years or so maybe the lightbulb will click on.

pretty "risque" stuff? Isn't that with ALL wii games?

Just to clarify, what caused the criticism was what the 'gameplay' apparently features (the things they do with a Wii remote in the trailer) against the age rating, not the game's existence.

This is what's wrong with America. Yeah, it's not aimed at twelve years olds, sure, but it's not like it's telling people to have *bleep*ing sex; the content itself had gotta be more than fair for the ESRB, biggest Nazis ever, to approve it.

But no let's not just be good parents and regulate what our children can do ourselves, teach them right and wrong, let's just make everything *bleep*ing illegal. Congratulations America, land of the free indeed.

The ESRB hasn't approved it, and there's no indication that the game is even lined up to be released in America. This is nothing to do with America or its ratings board.

Well then you've clearly done your job wrong.

Not sure I follow you. It's the PEGI people are getting at. It's not the game, it's not the people who play it, it's not the parents of people who play it.

If you mean me specifically, I didn't mention America or the ESRB in the article.

This game can't be to risque because it got a PG rating here in Aus.Though PG isn't the same here as America. This means the game is suggested for 15 and over but people under 15 are allowed to play it just fine.

It's also the lowest rating something can get without being suitable for all ages.

Your thinking of M. PG is like the equivalent of the ESRB's E10+.

        Gamesta100 Feb 28, 11
No the game got a PG rating in here.Which means parental guidance is recommended for persons under 15.

M means you have to be 15 to hire without an adult present.

MA means that it is restricted to persons 15 and over.

There is actually nothing wrong with the game itself and due to the fact it features the consoles Mii's is why the rating is so low. Also you don't have to play the game by shoving it down the pants of your closest female friend and spanking it, for children they will just waggle the remote as their characters fly through rings... UbiSoft are banking on adults making the game itself adult by the things they do outside of the game.

the logic that is used pretty much makes any Wii game where you swing the wiimote around an "Adult" game.
