Sales for Playstation 3's 80GB console are doing quite well. Since this Thursday morning, sales increased a whopping 5,685% on Amazon. The 80GB package will come with the game, MotorStorm.

Sales for Sony Corp.'s new 80GB Playstation 3 model increased 5,685 percent on Thurs. morning as Amazon.com began pre-sales for the product. The new 80GB model will include a copy of the online racing title MotorStorm and retail for $599.99. The item is listed to be released on Aug. 12 at the retailer.

Sony currently retails a 60GB PS3 SKU for $499. The model will be discontinued following depletion of stock at retail. The 60GB PS3 on Thurs. ranked as the No. 1 best-selling product at Amazon's Computer & Video Games division. Sony price cut the model last month by $100 to spur sales at U.S. retail.

Whoa, that's weird. I've edited it.

Anyways, good for Sony. I really see them starting to get pushed off the ground.

    This is hilarious.

That just tells you how shitty the console was selling before. What's the actual number of consoles sold?

What about us poor bastards that only got offered the 60 gig model. I would've picked up an 80 gig model if it was out at the time. Now I own a console which I paid full price for when there is a better model out for the same price that I payed. It's not like a price-drop...

Just spend like $60 and upgrade the PS3 HDD to like 180Gb.

Last time I remember there was an article that said PS3 sale over Amazon rose 1000%. Now it's at 5,685%. And that article wasn't that long ago.

well, if sales are at 0, then 5,685 units sell thats quite the increase isnt it? In looking at the jpg from the source, it seems Amazon likes overinflated / misrepresented numbers.

An increase of 5,685% definatly sounds like something blown way out of proportion.

Well well well, i guess the 80GB is more popular than the price cut lol. Well good for you PS3.

That has to be a typo or something. 5,685 is a LOT. Even if the PS3 only sold 100 models there, that's still more than 50,000 - and just for the PS3? I don't think so...

Not really considering the fact the 60GB after price cut went up 2500%. it goes to show you that while some here hates the new model its selling and pre-ordering like hotcakes.

well thats my point, its not an actual number but a percentage. If Amazon said the actual number of units that would be more interesting that displaying an over-inflated percentage

Yeah, that was totally necessary, keep it up, you'll be a hell of an asshole/hypocrite above all others soon.

Personally, I just wish I can get myself a 60 GB before they run out, I'll be wasting a lot of unnecessary HDD space anyways.
