Analyst: GTA IV delay could force another PS3 price cut

Although Rockstar's much anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV has been hit by another annoying delay, it's backward shuffle on the release list could still have a silver lining, according to analyst Michael Pachter. Pachter believes that the loss of GTAIV from Sony's 2007 release line-up could lead to yet another price cut to the PS3.

The disappointing news that Grand Theft Auto IV has been delayed until the second quarter of 2008 is bound to dent the incomes of both Microsoft and Sony this year, particularly given the massive potential for Holiday season sales it would have inevitably brought.

However, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter explains that the delay is an even bigger blow to Sony, one that might even force the firm to drop the price of the PS3 a second time in order to compete with its rivals in the coming months. “It hurts Sony this holiday ... maybe this gives them an incentive to cut the PS3 price again,” Pachter told Bloomberg.

    Could be a possibility but I doubt it since Sony already stated that they are not going for another price cut anytime soon. They could change their minds though if their sales decrease.

    And this would hurt the 360 just as much as the PS3 IMO.

    I agree with Seeker, there is just no way tha GTA IV, a MULTI-PLATFORM game is going to only affect the console enough for a price drop, they are out of their minds.

    That's terrible, as that was the game for Sony this year, even though it is multi-platform. I don't think a price cut will come. If it does, however, let's not replace it in a week or so, hmm? HMMM?!

      Heavenly Sword, Lair, Home, Warhawk, Haze and UT3 first, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank. Please don't sit there and piss on the PS3 as always. The 360 and the PS3 are both getting good games this year. I could ask what the 360 is getting besides Halo but it would be a stupid question.

    I really doubt that GTA4 will affect PS3 that much, it seems like some GTA4 fan boysaw GTA being cancelled and instantly assumed both console had nothing else

    I doubt it'd force a price cut. Over a game? I don't think Sony would do that.

    Why are so many analyst' getting involved all of a sudden ... Had to break it to you, but this slight delay isn't going to make or break the PS3. There are plenty of other good games coming out over the same time period anyways ...

    ... and why is a price cut referred to as a bad thing

My main point is that...what makes anyone think that a delay is atually gonna worry anyone in SCE when a game of MGS4's caliber (which has roughly the same caliber as the modern GTA games) is exclusive for the PS3 meanwhile GTA IV is still coming out for a simultaneous multiplatform release.

    I wont agree either. MGS all the way...

    But never the less... This is a possible outcome that could happen but goning by what sony have recently said I doubt it will come to it.

    It won't change anything. People will just wait longer to buy the console. It isn't going to make their money disappear lol.

    one game isn't going to cause a price cut.

    If it will then it would be great, im not even sure about getting GTAIV, becuase im not really a fan of the GTA series. Tekken pliz kthx.
