Some games clearly deserved the "M" rating that it got (Grand Theft Auto??) but there are some games that straddle the line between the "T" rating and "M" rating...

TF2 deserves its M rating. It has blood, gore, sexual references, and no matter how light-hearted it is, it is clearly designed for the older crowd. That's like saying Happy Tree Friends is drawn light-hearted, so children should be able to watch it.

I( agree with Persona 3 and Half-Life 2 though. Although Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 kind of pushes the envelope, along with the appearances of the other Headcrab Zombie types(and that most can be chopped clean in half).

Persona 3 was enjoyable, and I think the M was only because of the Gun to Head summoning technique. Otherwise, It should at least be rated T.

Persona 3 had a pretty mature story. True, it doesn't have much of the "simple" mature content--language, violence/gore, sexual content, etc. However, between the story itself and the whole gun to the head thing, I'd say it definitely deserves a Mature rating.

I can just see some simple-minded kid trying to shoot his or her self in the head to summon some bat shit crazy demon or something.

I think agree with Devil May Cry. I don't remember anything overly graphic in the game.

I'd also put Halo 1 on the list, and possibly all other Halo games. I never really understood it's M rating.

There was almost zero foul language in the first one, and the goriest thing I could remember was Flood exploding, and I found that to be almost cartoonish rather than gory.

I don't particularly remember anything to terrible in the PS2 Devil May Cry games, either, but it was definitely violent, and definitely had the whole demonic thing going on. I'd say just the whole setting and demon-oriented story is what tipped it over the edge.

As for Halo, I agree entirely. The Flood and bright blue alien blood would be the only things to warrant the Mature rating as far as I remember. It seems like there were a few more obvious choices than this article pointed out, as I can thing of a few reasons each one received its rating.

Oblivion is the obvious choice. It was T, then changed to M due to a PC hack. It should have stayed T.

While I do agree, the mods just caused the ESRB to review the game's content, and they said they found other default content that they weren't aware of at first, like mutilated corpses, more suggested dialogue than they realized, etc.

Nope, Oblivion deserves the rating of M and not because of user made mods at all.

The game itself offers violence, suggestive themes, sexual references and many other items that would deem it M rating.

As to the "PC hack" that's a cover up story for ESRB's blunder. They didn't bother to check the game and Beth Soft actually told them it deserves a M rating. They slapped a T rating on it and after 2 weeks of complaints from parents...both Beth Soft and ESRB decided to review the game

This time they rated it M and stated the reason for the change was due to the access of a hidden texture file shipped with all games that allowed gamers to make nude versions...which is bullshit since any PC modder of the Elder Scrolls games knows every skin texture had cloth material covering the genitals and assets of each race.

The user made nude mods are just that, all user made and made from scratch. So please...stop buying into the bullshit reason that the game got a M rating for a "PC hack"
