The Xbox 360 may have more sales in the United States, but worldwide sales figures show that the Playstation 3 is the king of consoles. Even the strong sales of the Kinect have not...

That's expected. Sony is much more popular in Europe and Japan.

The two are so close that I think it's a bit irrelevant.

Though tbh I do think that sometimes people forget that the US is not the entire world, and that the American sales alone do not reflect the overall wellbeing of a console.

I honestly don't care which consoles sell more, but I suppose there are people that still do.

Good for Sony I guess I mean it is quite a feat to have sold more than a system that had a worldwide year head start and 10 million unit sales lead before the PS3 even launched.

I'll be impressed when either system manages to catch up to the Wii. With weaker hardware, a regular 3rd party flow of shit for games, and limited online capabilities Nintendo showed you could dominate a generation of games with a few key iconic IPs and the proper marketing.

No, they could show they could dominate this gen by having your console focus around a gimmick, releasing rehash after rehash to make nostalgia guys happy, and having a console that specifically caters to the young or casuals.

That's the only reason why it sells so well. When you have young kids you're going to buy a Wii, not a PS3/360.

I agree with you on most of that, but those "rehashes" have changed more with each iteration than many other big titles out there do(Super Mario Galaxy 2 not withstanding, hell if anything it's the exception that proves the rule).

You'll be impressed when they sell-out and start focusing all of their power on selling low quality gimmicky crap to idiots, children and housewives?

No i'll be impressed if they can pull in that market that Nintendo did because the Wii didnt just pull in the "idiots" as the elitist core gamers often call the masses, they pulled in everybody just like the ps2 had done before it.
Dont bash the Wii just because it bitchslapped the other two consoles around and made it smell it's finger. If anything Nintendo showed the general public, the nongamers you know the people resposible for the growth of the industry dont just want to shoot things in the face.

You mean the people responsible (casuals) for the dumbing down of games everywhere? This includes the CoD crowd too by the way.

The Wii didn't pull in everyone. It pulled in families and Nintendo-fans who are loyal to the company.

where is the source for this? the link in the title is broken, and VG Chartz says otherwise, so unless they are just really behind on their data, this claim doesnt seem valid. not to mention "the gamer buzz" doesnt even yield any results on Google, which is where this is supposedly from, so WTF?

lame April Fools joke? a day or 2 late.

If this sales data is accurate then that means that Nintendo currently accounts for about half the total hardware sales for this generation not even including the DS and all of it's variants. And the dumbing down of games everywhere? A little melodramatic considering that 2010 might of been the greatest year for video games in terms of pure quality, and 2011 is already up to a great start with instant clasics already being released and we're just over 1/4th of the way into the year.
