We weren't too surprised to learn that Gears of War was going to be coming to the PC, we were however surprised to learn that there will be no cross platform play between the PC and XBOX360 versions of the games.

People have come up with various reasonings behind why there is no cross-platform play, however ComputerAndVideoGames.com have finally gotten the real reason:- The PC and XBOX360 Gears of War bases aren't compatible.

The PC version uses the [Unreal Engine 3] engine code, where as the XBOX 360's version uses a different code base, and overtime the compatibility between the engines was lost. The reason is also that behind the reason as to why the PC extra's wont be coming to the XBOX360.

    We've known this every since it was announced; Epic stated that the PC version features the new, updated U3 engine.

    Anybody that has PC can play Microsoft's games... You almost don't even need a 360.

    You can play more types of games but owning a PS3 and PC...

      Not really, considering the PS3 has about two exclusives at the moment.

      Good job being irrelevant.

        Though he has a point that most of the good 360 exclsuives are also on the PC and better on that platform, all of the PS3 exclusives and coming exclusives are PS3 and PS3 only,

        The PS3 can all types of disc, its one of there main features, i show you it.

        Here:

        CD Disc media (read only):

        * PlayStation CD-ROM
        * PlayStation 2 CD-ROM
        * CD-DA (ROM), CD-R, CD-RW
        * SACD Hybrid (CD layer), SACD HD
        * DualDisc (audio side), DualDisc (DVD side)

        DVD Disc media (read only):

        * PlayStation 2 DVD-ROM
        * PLAYSTATION 3 DVD-ROM
        * DVD-Video: DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW

        Blu-ray Disc media (read only):

        * PLAYSTATION 3 BD-ROM
        * BD-Video: BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE

        Another site says: Lets say you have a PS3 with the Hard Drive preloaded with Linux. Theoretically, with Cedega by TransGaming, you could play a myriad of PC games as well as new ones on the way. Couple this with the numerous emulators available for Linux and the fact that Microsoft's new development platform is PC friendly, this very well could make the PS3 the king of all gaming libraries.

          I guess you just chose to ignore the word Theoretically. Have you seen anyone play a PC game on a PS3?

    The answer to that would be no, but in the end it could do anything as longs as it has more "modifications" to make it happen, and if it doesnt it cant of course. I know I would not modify a £350 console just like that =/

    Bit of a shame for Gears of Wars fans then I assume, however as Cdemon said I thought it was aware from the start that cross platform playing wouldn't be happening.
