John Carmack made a speech last night at QuakeCon that there may be a version of Quake Arena heading over to the DS. Also, for reasons unknown, he said that he'd prefer the d-pad to be used instead of the touch screen like many other games in the same category as Quake.

During John Carmack’s speech last night at QuakeCon, he mentioned that there may be a version of Quake Arena heading to the DS

John stated that, he’d like it to be more limited like the D-pad controlled Doom and not "touch screen controlled" like Metroid Prime Hunters. For what reason? We aren’t sure. Metroid Prime Hunters controlled nearly flawlessly, except for the occasional hand cramping. We will have more on this as it comes. How would you want Quake to be controlled on the DS?

well in MP:H i had it set to dual mode (d-pad) because i cant control well with the stylus, and now that my stylus is gone because it feel out of my ds i would want it to be d-pad able, or have a setting to have both ways to be put in just as MP:H did.

anyways, i think this game will be good, i have played the pc game quite often and i was quite happy with it, i also hope that it has a great multiplayer to play with friends as well as a stellar wi-fi to pwn across the internet.

Quake as a touch screen, I cant see it happening to be honest. I think they should just bring it to the Playstation Portable but then again that will never happen =[
