Doctor Who Coming To The Consoles - Great...But...

Krunal | August 05, 2007 | News | PC Playstation 2
Well Eidos have finally announced that they will be making a Doctor Who game, however should we be worried to know that the game is more like a Card Game as opposed to another genre of gaming?
There is a huge variety of Top Trumps card games with pop-culture themes, including WWE, Manchester United Football Stars, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. In each, cards feature characters or vehicles with scores for attributes such as speed and stamina. The starting player chooses a category and uses his or her top-scoring card, and all other players must try to beat it with one of their cards. The winner then collects cards from all other players, and the ultimate winner is the person who ends up with the whole pack of cards.

I would love to see a decent Doctor Who game come out on console sometime. It would be interesting to see what it would be like.

...But top-trumps style? That's just yukky. I fail to see why anybody would rather play a card game like that on a screen rather than IRL

You pretty much summed it up for me, Top Trumps really is a card game that should stick to being played in real life, as your never going to experience the joy/delight/excitement of getting the better of your opponent when they thought they had you bummed.

But yeah "Missed Opportunity" is quite right, there is potential for a Doctor Who game, but it isn't this.

Yet another project to file under "Missed Opportunity". Complete waste of a license.

That's so lame. Who actually wants to play top trumps on a video game?

Ugh. Doctor Who is such and awesome show with so many ways to do an awesome game. Why didn't they do something really cool? There's a guy running around in a (slightly broken) space ship that can travel through time with all sorts of fun crazy gagets, and they make it a card game? (On a similar note, does anyone know anything about the game that was made based on the orginal series? How was that one done? Or even which doctor it was based on?)

Never been a fan of his, this would just be a hit into merchandising I would say myself. All top trumps are to be perfectly honest.. =/

I love Doctor Who, but if this is made as a shoddy card game, it will be more of a blemish to both the DS and the TV series.
