Daily Game has written an article concerning the Grand Theft Auto IV delay and how it's hurting the Xbox 360, but doing the total opposite to the Playstation 3. They have complied a list of three reasons for this case.
First, Microsoft, trying to draw more attention to the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV, paid $50 million to get that exclusive downloadable content. They were hoping for this content to boost sales during this holiday season, but because of the delay, it won't. Secondly, reflecting on the first reason, Sony will have more time to do more with their install base, possibly giving Rockstar a reason to put exclusive content on the PS3. The final reason is that since Microsoft is getting out it's good games early, the PS3 sales could boost. This could happen because Halo 3 was set to release early to avoid competition from GTA IV. If Halo 3 doesn't get pushed back due to the GTA IV delay, Halo 3 will be released two months before the holiday shopping season, giving Sony a clear shot to come up with their first-party lineup.
The GTA IV delay isn't necessarily going to help the PS3 a whole lot, but it sure isn't going to help the 360.
But not so fast, Microsoft. Last week Rockstar delayed GTA IV until at least February 2008, a move that quite literally could have stolen every single ounce of leverage you hoped to have. In fact, that announcement could have single-handedly put your very-real competitors, Sony and the PlayStation 3, in the driver's seat in the GTA IV race, for three reasons.

Both the 360 and PS3 could live without a GTA game.
I love how you contradict the title right thurr.
I do agree that this is helping Sony more then Microsoft.
And yeah I also agree, this is an advantage for Sony and not so for Microsoft.
Why did you have to tell me this anyway, what's the relevance?
btw i dont care if the game is helping the ps3, 360, or somehow even the wii. it's gonna haul ass on both systems when it's released, and that's all that matters.
what will they do?
I say " *bleep* the fans ".
