Official: Microsoft lowers price of Xbox 360

SwiderMan | August 06, 2007 | News | XBOX 360
Microsoft issued a statement at midnight on Tuesday that said it will cut the price of all Xbox 360 bundles by $50. All prices for all four SKUs (including the special edition Halo 3 unit) receive the $50 markdown. Their new totals are listed on the source.
Beginning Wednesday, August 8, if you don't own an Xbox 360 already, you can buy one for $50 less than today. Microsoft made the rumored price cut official by reducing the Xbox 360 Premium bundle (20GB hard drive, wireless controller, Xbox 360 headset) to $349.99. The Core is still around and also received the $50 markdown for a new total of $279.99.

This price cut will definitely help boost Xbox 360 sales, especially with the release of the news games between now and November. Excellent timing, Microsoft.

This will be good for Microsoft in the long run I think. And I think it will also persuade Sony to lower their prices even further.

This is a good idea by Microsoft, basically as you got Halo just coming out and to people going to get the console because of this game they save a good bit. Well done Micro =]

Reducing the price of the Halo Console before it's even been released? Weird there but good nevertheless, selling that cheap will appeal to lots of new gamers, that have heard great things of Halo but never had the opportunity of plaiyng it.

Sweet. Come on Microsoft, just drop it $50 to $299 and you'll have another customer!

"The Core is still around and also received the $50 markdown for a new total of $279.99."

    Wasn't it $299.99 before? That isn't $50 off ...

Anyway, I hope it drops more in Canada. It was overpriced here, compared to the US. $300 USD is not $400 CAD, and $400 USD is not $500 CAD. It should be $350 and $450 here. Hopefully, this price drop will be more than just $50 here. Really, $100 would be quite reasonable. The PS3 dropped $150 here.

Has the Elite also dropped in price? If so, how much?

I see sales doing well for this. Four friends are going to get one over the next two weeks because of the $50 price drop. $50 is better than nothing.
