Button-mashing, dolphins, mechs and giraffes on XBLA this month

The Xbox Live Arcade service just keeps on giving. August brings us the likes of classic sporting action in Track & Field, underwater adventure in Ecco the Dolphin, puzzle-based entertainment in Hexic, and long-necked sci-fi shooting in Space Giraffe. Get you Points ready!

The August release schedule for Xbox Live Arcade just landed on our desk, and what a diverse old month we’re in for.

Things kick off with joypad-destroying classic Track & Field. Konami’s ageless athletics arcade game was released almost 25 years ago, inspiring a wave of Olympic-themed, button-bashing games throughout the Eighties and Nineties.

Later this month, we can expect the likes of Ecco the Dolphin (for those who haven’t already downloaded it on the Wii’s Virtual Console), Jeff "I'm over llamas" Minter’s trippy shooter Space Giraffe, hexagonal match-me-do Hexic 2, and indie mech shooter War World.

    I'll be sure to check out Ecco but I can't wait for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 from Sega.

    So I'll be able to get Hexic again after I accidentally deleted it? Or is it just Hexic 2?


    If not, I really think they should have Hexic HD on the marketplace for free. I mean it comes with the system, so if it's free, why not make it free on the marketplace?

      Nope unfortunately for you this is a new game, Hexic 2, adding more gameplay and lots of new features. I agree it's a bummer for you if you have deleted it, there's no way of manually downloading, however if you ring up Micorosft (good luck ) I have heard some people have been able to get a code to download it again.

      Track & Field will be a joy to play, can't wait for that.

    Great additions to the Marketplace, espically with the likes of Track and Field and Ecco.. Ecco oh I remember that game oh to well xD
