Since Shenmue Online was not shown at the China Joy gaming event in 2007 this made fans think if Shenmue Online still existed. Today Kikizo staff confirmed that Shenmue Online has been cancelled and at the same time Shenmue III won't be happening any time soon, as the Kikizo staff speaks these words "As for Shenmue, I would have to say at this stage, it is worth forgetting about." A dark day is to be created upon Shenmue fans reading this.

Sadly that’s the last we’ll see of any Shenmue games, since Shenmue Online has been canceled and will more than likely never see another sequel like Shenmue 3. Seganerds reports that ever since the game didn’t show up at China Joy 2007 it’s continued development has been questioned.

Damn! I've been waiting to continue Ryo Hazuki's story ever since Shenmue 2's cliffhanger ending way back in the days of the Dreamcast. A next-generation version of Shenmue could have been a brilliant game, it's a shame it'll never happen.

Shenmue was like how Ninja Gaiden Sigma is for the PS3 atm, the reason we bought a Dreamcast. The story was excellent, characters developed, great game overall. I'm sure they'll come around to Shenmue III sooner or later.

From what I read, it's just pushed aside for now, not given up on completely. So there's still hope.
