Doom III successor will not use DX10

Sort | August 08, 2007 | News | PC Gaming Tech/Hardware
iD Software recently announced that they will not include any DirectX 10 features in their newest PC release entitled "Rage". John Carmack pretty much snubbed Vista with this move. Considering how popular his Doom and Quake titles have been, you can count on MS and new DX10 rig owners not being too happy with his decision.
The move won't be popular with Microsoft; id Software is responsible for some of the most popular PC gaming franchises in history, including the Doom and Quake series. id's 3D engines are also licenced by several third party developers for use is a wide range of PC and console games.

Speaking at the recent QuakeCon gaming jamboree, id co-founder and coder extraordinaire John Carmack said, "There's no DX10 feature that's going to be driven in Rage...There's nothing there that I'm dying to get my hands on."

This isn't a huge deal. I hated it when I always had to update my direct X just to play games and then something else would go wrong. That's when I decided to stop playing PC games because it costs to much to keep my machine up to par.

It's a huge deal to all those gamers with brand spankin' new DX10 rigs and G80 graphics cards.

They want to put that machine to work and now, for Rage, it's not even going to be necessary to have them.
