A new UK-based game development studio has been founded with the intention of developing only for Nintendo's Wii and DS. Although this decision was made, if the studio were to be founded a couple years back, it would have been a PS2-only studio.
Newly founded UK-based game-maker, Oxygen, has pledged exclusive alliance to Nintendo, by opening a studio in London which will develop games only for Wii and DS.
Publishing director Kevin Hassall told develop that the company's approach came about because of the platforms' fast growing installed base of casual users.
"Oxygen's objective has always been to cater for mainstream audiences," said Hassall. "So, if we had set up Oxygen Studios a couple of years ago they would probably have started with a PS2 title.
"But today the DS is the ascendant mainstream format, and it looks like the Wii will repeat that awesome success," he continued. "So inevitably Oxygen Studios is starting with the Nintendo platforms it's simply a reflection of the success that Nintendo have had with the mainstream market."
