Here's a positive news story for Friday. No rumors, no console wars and no depressing game delays in this piece. It's about a 9-year-old I saw on cable news who saved his father and himself from a tractor-trailer accident when the dad passed out. When asked what he was going to do, his dad said all he wants is a PS3. Enjoy.

9-year-old Matty Lovo saved his father, Matt Lovo, who passed out behind the wheel of his tractor-trailer. Carrying more than 100,000 pounds of weight behind him, young Matty took control of the big rig and called for help via C.B. radio despite never having been behind the wheel of a car.

Without Matty’s quick effort, he, his father and others could’ve been seriously injured. CNN’s Kyra Phillips asked him if he thought he was a hero and he unabashedly answered “Yeah.” So, what is the young, self-described hero of nine going to do now? “He keeps telling me he thinks he needs his PlayStation 3 now for a reward,” his father answered for him.

For saving his Dad's life and all, a PS3 is a pretty good deal in return. Nice to see a positive news story for a change.

Sten you're a fool, that's cool that the little guy says he's a hero and wants his PS3 now.

He saved his dads, his own, and probably others lives by doing what he did you piece of shit.

I grant him permission to call himself a hero.

      Who cares what you grant.

a true hero doesn't ask for rewards. Being a hero is a reward in itself.

He may deserve a PS3, I never said he didn't.

Your absolutely right Sten, a hero asks nothing in return but the pleasure of saving lives. If the father asked "thanks son for saving our life and others, if there is anything you want just name it" then you can ask for it, but doing what he did is selfish, and if i was him i would be ashamed of myself.

being a hero is a reward in itself? What the hell is this? oprah?

If I save someone's life, they owe me big time.

Ditto. It's absolutely ridiculous to think that a child (a NINE year old child) wouldn't ask for a reward. Nine year olds want the world, and I could bet that most children would do the same at that age. Geez. Even I'd ask for a reward. It'd be worth a try, at least. XD

Still, it is finalblade98's right to have an opinion on his own as long as it doesn't offend anybody else's beliefs. Comment restored.

    Great "news".

I wouldn't mind a PS3 for that. Knowing that I saved lives would be a big enough reward.

Thats funny, though the child should be ashamed, i would be angry at him for actually asking a reward for saving life.

Maybe he deserves a PS3...but asking for one is a bit much...

Maybe a comment like "Well, if it isn't too much trouble...I wouldn't mind a PS3"...

    Well, kids are like that, very direct most of the time ;;

I wish MORE people would be as direct. I'm tired of others not saying what they want and being all flip-floppy and manipulative about it. This kid is a total OG

For sure, *bleep* man, the young generation of like 8-10 year olds seems like badasses. What happened to all the whiny Neoseeker kids at 11-14.

Most of them either grew up or realize you can't get everything. So they just don't ask. About time, i mean i never got everything i asked for why should they. Even for saving lives it seems to Selfish.

What's with all you people? He's 9, why shouldn't he want a PS3. Vol summed it up nicely. You don't deserve a reward for saving those many lives, considering HE IS A CHILD? Gimme a break guys.

This reminds of this story on the TV once, where these boats help other boats which are in trouble but then charge them massive sums of money afterwards for rescuing them.

I reckon this kid planned this accident just so he could rescue him and get a reward

    nah just kidding

But tbh. For a 9 year old. A Wii is more reasonable. Just a thought.

    Storm Aug 11, 07
Haha, I'd ask for a DS That's only because I have a PS3 xD Haha, that's a good reward in return for saving himself and his dad.

Damn right the kid should be rewarded. Such behaviour should only be encouraged. What if he just panicked and sat there motionless, unable to do anything? The kids IS a hero!

Nicely said there teo, your definitely right with what you have just said. I have a sister who is 9 who I am sure would also do the same if in the situation, however I do know some 9 year olds that wouldn't know what to do and instead panic. This is a great news article, good on the boy!
