A website is claiming that Home may be being pruned to replace the XMB of the PS3. They claim that this would be a bad move from Sony as Home will not appeal to all gamers despite being interesting in its nature, it is believed that Home is simply nothing more than a novelty.

This last point is both encouraging and disappointing. It is good to see that Sony will continue to improve the quality of their product (which they are distributing for free after all). While the XMB has substantially improved since its first release – and continues to do so –, we would expect that this launch does not suffer from too many missing or incomplete features just so the product can be pushed out the door before Christmas.

As for Home replacing the XMB: Aside from whether this would even be feasible, we can’t stress enough how bad of an idea it is. Home, as it stands, is an interesting experiment, but it will not appeal to all consumers. We believe that many consumers will grow tired of its novelty after a few uses at least in the short term. It is very possible that it will gather momentum as it matures, and more critical features are added. Sony, in its effort to address the feature gap between its XMB offering and Xbox Live is pitching Home as the next-gen interface for consumers. Unfortunately, most consumers only want a simple, easy to use and direct interface to play games, communicate with friends and be entertained. We are therefore skeptical about its potential as a replacement for a simple interface.

Doubt it. It might be presented as an alternative option, but it will not replace it.

What is giving them the idea that it will replace the xbm?

Doubtful As Ameer said, there might be an option to set it to automatically go into home but to replace it, I think not.

That would alienate a large portion of the people that Sony is aiming for with their Blu-Ray game playing media center.

This is actually mentioned in my earlier article "More PS3 HOME info"

Like the site says they really don't believe Sony will do this because of the public outcry it would make

Well, home is a good thing, but honesty who ever thought it would replace XMB is quite stupid.

Yeah, I don't agree it should completely replace XMB. It should just be optional like Ameer said.

I don't think I'd even want it as the main set up. I'm hardly ever going to use home if I do use it.

May I ask what MXB is? Never been on a PS3 so I am unaware...

The Home does seem really good though, from what I know of it I would be happy for it to replace the dashboard on the Xbox 360 probably.

You do realise that this is IMPOSSIBLE right? Not everyone has Online, and if it was to replace it you'd need... oh lets see Online. Also the fact that most people want to get from A to B in the shortest time possible, and waiting for Home to load isn't always the quickest

As for the XMB (XrossMediaBar), is the name of the "Dashboard" of the PS3 (The interface if you will).

It is not possible for them to do this, as Krunal stated you cant for offline players. Maybe you just dont get it if you are offline but still. I would not like to see this happen.
