Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently confirmed that the Wii U will only support one controller per console. Apparently, according to the big cheese, it is “a cost issue.”

Well, there's another one of the many reasons that I won't be picking up a Wii U.

Well I'm not usually one to make judgements at this stage, but this really sounds like a stupid move. What's the point of all this innovative tech if they're barely going to use it? If it costs too much, then maybe you should have considered that before designing it?

The only way this makes sense is if they're talking about only bundling one controller with the console. But the wording doesn't seem to suggest that.

yeah it should be more than capable of supporting more than 1 at once. the Wii was probably able to support more than 1 balance board at once hardware-wise. obviously only 1 person would be in control of certain things like flicking a picture or video from the controller to the screen but thats really silly. this is not going to go over as well as the original Wii.

seems like if you want to do the handheld-to-console compatibility thing, PS3 and PSV is a better idea. though its not really high on my priority list at the moment.

Well to be honest I haven't done split screen gaming in ages. So really, it's not a deal breaker to me. Still seems like a terrible move, I'm sure a lot of people do in room multiplayer still.

Yeah, the cost issue is if it doesn't cost a certain amount he won't be able to afford his new cars. That's what we call vah-vah-vuck you, consumer scum.

You guys know you'll still be able to do multiplayer with Wii Remotes, right?

That's like saying you can use an old Nokia to speak to a friend with an iPhone.

if you play with friends on this everyone will be fighting over who gets the shiny new controller. who wants to be stuck with a dumb old Wii remote?

People who like to controllers that aren't the size of a table.

Besides, I really don't want more controllers cluttering up the house. The Wii Remote was enough with all its add-ons, and I'm glad I don't have to shell out for 3 more Wii-U controllers in order to play with friends.
