So, it seems that the game will still initially need to sync with Origin while installing, based on the phrasing of the last paragraph. That is the same for Steam but where the two differ is in the delivery of patches and updates. When Steam is running it is able to access updates but without connecting through them games will not update themselves. Generally though, the two seem to be analogous and it remains to be seen how else EA may try to break Origin free from the pack.
