The game's director, Yuki Nishikawa was very generous and kind to answer some questions on the up coming PSP game Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes.
By shortening the "Secret Technique" movie sequences they are able to maintain the high quality and high tempo of the game.

IGN: How do the multi-planed stages affect the combat mechanics?

Nishikawa: The placement of breakable objects and the items within them differ depending on the plane. If players use the "Plane Switch Attack" to strike opponents, they can switch planes right after knocking down an enemy for a kind of hit-and-run tactic.

IGN: Can you describe how the multiplayer elements will work?

Nishikawa: One of the PSP's strongest appeal is being able to battle your friends wirelessly anytime, anywhere. Playing versus mode with your friend's own customized character, swapping profiles and game sharing are just some of the exciting wireless features the game has to offer.
