It's amazing really. Ranked Warhawk matches will be run off servers made entirely from PlayStation 3 systems. This demonstrates the power of the PS3s processer - the Cell - extremely well.

It will take until Warhawk is released for us all to see just how reliable and lag-free these PS3 servers will prove. Perhaps it's a method other developers will want to adpot?

We want to make sure that there are always an abundance of wicked-fast Ranked Dedicated servers available for players. The images that accompany this post were taken by our very talented IT team here at SCEA. And yes, what you’re looking at is an enormous server cluster for Warhawk…of rack-mounted PS3s!

...that explains why the games ran so smoothly.

Yeah, when we played there was no lag at all, and this was in epic 32 player matches with people flying around, driving tanks, or blasting each other on the ground on enormous maps.

Or me running into a group of four guys with a knife and taking them all out

Uhhh, if you're talking about the Warhawk beta, only so many people had access to that, so it isn't really the best representation...

Now, with 10's of thousands of people playing, THEN you'll see what it is capable of...

And that is a LOT of PS3s though...

Wow, I knew the PS3 was powerful, but not this powerful.
Despite the fact that this a bit off-the-wall, it does show off the PS3's power quite a bit.

This truly shows off the power of this PS3. Finally, a good online game besides Resistance.

    Oh very funny (not!)

Anyway do you think they would have had to pay for all those PS3's?

Very interesting, i hope it doesn't have any lag time, then perhaps this will encourage Other devs to use this method, for the PS3.

Won't those PS3s break down after a few weeks of running non-stop?

Yeah, I'm sure they'll do some additional cooling system, to make up for the extra heat generated...

And I'm sure they'll turn off systems, and start up others, to give each system a break every once in a while...
