The Top 10 Things Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony Won't Tell You About Your Wii, X360, and PS3

Here's a list of 10 things you can do on Microsoft's, Sony's, and Nintendo's next-gen consoles other than playing games. Surprisingly enough, a lot of gamers who own these consoles don't even know half of what these consoles can do other than play games.

Anyway, it's pretty cool how you can use some of these features on your very "game" console.
1. Watching movies, videos, and movie trailers downloaded to the PC on their big screen TV.
2. Watching video game preview clips and trailers highlighting upcoming games on the big screen TV.
3. Listening to their entire music collection on the TV surround sound music system.
4. Sharing favorite gaming videos and recordings without any size, time or upload restrictions.
5. Watching YouTube videos in big screen format.
6. Watching live and recorded Internet TV (i.e. European soccer games, foreign language TV, and so much more) on the big screen TV.
7. Using a webcam for live videoconferencing with friends.
8. Watching a slideshow from their photo collections on their home TV during dinner.
9. Sharing home and Internet videos, music, and photos with friends and family to watch on TVs at home -- or watch the media that friends and family share with you.
10. Listening to their favorite internet radio station on the surround sound system.

I don't even know how anyone can spend more than $400 on their consoles and not even know half the shit it's capable of.

Some of this stuff shouldn't be news to 360 owners with Live.

There's an entire Marketplace for that stuff.

Though apart from at E3 which the casual gamer doesn't really tune into lots of people are clueless to the fact they can actually doe this stuff... The casual gamers see's the live visison camera and thinks eye toy a shitty gimmick not worth buying... They see marketplace oh somewhere to sell me stuff i don't really need, they aren't told that 60% of the marketplace is free demo's and videos... Thats what they are getting at these consoles have all this functionality in all respects the PS3 more than most but Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo don't tell the casual gamer about those features... Its like the casual PS3 owner probably doesn't even know that you can play music and then browse the web without the music shutting off... It is things like that.

I don't trust that Orb program. If I understand what it's saying, it's like passing the content of your PC through the internet. Scary stuff.

Number 8 is the type of ones that we all know about but never bother to take full advantage of. Why sit in the lounge crowded round a load of photos when you can put a display up on the TV to look at whilst eating dinner?

I think the title of this article is very misleading. Sony advertised the PS3 as a means for media not just gaming. The Wii has the internet channel, the 360 you can stream your music collection. All of these things have been mentioned by the three companys and these are points listed in the article.
