According to 'Bill Nye: The Science Guy', keeping your eyes too close to the screen while playing videogames can ruin your vision. While playing handhelds like the DS or PSP, you should keep the screen a 'forearm's length' away from your face. While playing on the computer, you should keep your eyes an 'arms length' away from the screen.

I used to watch Bill Nye: The Science Guy when I was a kid.

Interesting video. I guess I gotta move my computer chair further from the screen.

Who looks at the screen closer than 'forearms length' anyways? Tell him he needs his eyes testing.

Actually I'm pretty sure most computer and console manuals inform you to not get too close to the screen

Still a arm length away from handheld?

Won't that mean you'll have to walk around with your arms fully extended like a zombie?

Nah, a 'forearms length' for handhelds. Fold your arm towards your head with your elbow facing outward. That's where the handheld should be, where your elbow is.

I don't know anyone who sits that close anyway though with a handheld it is more difficult to stay further away. Nevermind the eyes though, playing handhelds hurts my neck.

I rarely use portables, but I am too close to the computer screen most of the time, so that's a nice little heads up there.

Ok, I'm gonna give my somewhat sarcastic/tad annoyed response first, and then my serious response.

    Somewhat sarcastic/tad annoyed:
Well no duh! Doesn't take a genius to know having computer screens and tv screens and such too close to your eyes is dangerous, but then again I spose you don't see a lot of intelligent everyday people these days with various exceptions. If your a regular user of such devices and don't know, then I suggest you start looking at what else you don't know about the things your screwing with. It's only common sense but these days people seem to lack that I spose.

    Serious:
With that out of the way, I do say good job to him for informing people about it even though they should already know to some degree. It's a good thing to do and given today's number of people using computers and such, I think this is really important. Though I can't say I totally understand playing while tired, if your feeling tired, you sleep. Whats so hard about that? Anyway, its good to see somebody trying to inform the masses the dangers of such things.

I only stand close because my eye sight is poor, which is probably making my eyes worse. I have glasses, but when I paid for them, they were suppose to be metallic blue. When I actually got them they were dark purple and horrible looking.

I had to wear them though.

This is true. Learned it the hard way because now i wear glasses.
But will this make you near-sighted or far sighted?

Watching him is ruining my eyes. DUH, I think people realise it hurts they're eyes, when they are actually sitting too close. We do tend do realise some sort of pain in our eyes, if we do this. It's nothing new. I don't know anyone who sits that close anyways.
