"1/10 MMORPG Players Develop Physical Relationships With Others"

And no, I don’t mean other people period, I mean with their actual in-game friends, although that would be hilariously pathetic =D . The thought of a Tauren and Orc getting it on though is absolutely disgusting. Sure, I’ve gotten a lap dance in Goldshire before, but we were both human and she needed the gold for college or a mount or something…

Anyways, Nottingham Trent University has done a research study which reveals some interesting statistics in regards to online gamers. Almost 1,000 online gamers were researched around the world, revealing such tidbits like female gamers are more likely to feel attraction for another player and date them, or that 81% of online gamers play with friends or family. I read a few lines already and I can tell this is an interesting topic for a research especially if you are one of those people, I do play MMORPGs a lot. I'll make sure to read the whole thing and comment on it later when I get back from work.

I play WoW myself. I was on it yesterday because a friend is planning on getting the game and wanted to check some stuff out. It was the first time in months. I've always played with my friends in real life. In fact, I have stopped because no one really plays any more, but that is about to change around October or so. I've only worked one real job in my life for a couple of months at a call center, and almost everyone there played WoW. That is all we would talk about, and we would do raids together. There was a lot of females who played too, sometimes with their husbands. My boss (female) was a level 60

And I'm level 70 but I haven't played since March. I'm looking forward to the expansion though. It's going to be awesome.

I juststarted playing wow again after a big break, have a 70 warrior but I started over on a druid:P. Anyway had a kind of weird experience when I found out my old boss and his wife also played wow. I also ended up meeting someone ingame who lived in the same town as me, we never met up though.

It's risky business though. The fine ass female Night Elf you are questing with might actually be a dude. There are a lot of male players who like to use female avatars. Sure, they could tell the truth, but they might also enjoy messing with your head too. Or you could play with a male Dwarf and find out it is some hot babe you live near. There really is no way to know unless you both get on webcam or something, and even then you might be tricked D:

So you can take any ten kids in middle school who play WoW and one of them would have an online girlfriend? lol :^D I remember one of my friends had one of those on WoW who he just seemed to forget about after a while.

That's kinda of odd. I can understand becoming friends or something, but doing crap like that is crazy weird.

Its not that weird if you think about it. You meet a lot of people on online, some of whom you actually like and become friends with. Every once in a while you get attracted to someone online and things go from there. That's how life, friends and dating works, the only difference is you don't know what the other person looks like.

Its just like going to a big party, you will meet people if you interact with them.

The issue is that interaction in an online game and interaction in the real world are two totally different experiences. There is a level of anonymity on the internet that goes beyond what could ever be achieved at a party. It's impossible to "know" someone through a computer screen. Still a very interesting read nonetheless.

It's true, I used to play with a lot of people I actually know IRL, my brother was one of them, the other being my next-door neighbor and I've played a lot of MMOs with the owner of the local internet club. She is still playing WoW, she can't quit, addiction

Some interesting statistics there, I'm quite suprised the numbers are as high as they are, to think that 1 in 10 peopleare developing physical relationships with people they don't really know, kinda worrying.
