The owner of the famous Activision troll has been brought to light. Check out GamerGaia for full information on how Activision did it and ended what is probably one of the most high profile trolls in recent years.

Yesterday, I brought you news on the unknown man who used ModernWarfare3.com to troll Activision, and now there are yet more developments in the trolling that Eric Pederson first brought to GamerGaia's attention. The Monty Python-loving fellow behind the domain had been an unknown beacon for Battlefield buffs all over, until recently. We now know the identity of the registered domain owner, thanks to Whois records.

MW3 shouldn't get the domain though.. It's already registered to someone else. Hell, if they do get it then what stops us from doing it as well? Money... lulz.

just goes to show what a douchey company like Activision can do by throwing enough money at the problem.

i kinda hope this gets wrapped up in legal tape for a long time, at least long after when MW3 comes out. that way they cant use it to promote their piece of garbage game any more than they already have. although i dont want the owner of the site to have to pay a huge bill for all the court fees that would rack up, im sure he's already gonna have a lot to pay. though i dont know a whole lot about how much it costs to go to court.

years ago anyone could buy any domain but laws now support the companies and peoples names others try to use for there domains. there have been many clebs and sports players domains legally handed over to the copyright/trademark owner. Chances are they will try to get it taken care of out of court just with threats. They own the domain name as there copyright it is not 100% fair that they can do that. EA would not buy the domain and do that ever they know better like most.

They're a douchey company because they don't want to lose advertising?

Yeah, that makes sense. Stop making Activision the bad guy when they're doing what anyone else would do, even though they are pricks.

its only because its BF3. if it was a lesser game not really on anyones radar, they probably wouldnt care that much. why didnt they get that domain before now? i know they have their MW3 page set up under the Activision domain but they could have always used it as a redirect to their main page. you cant say they didnt think about purchasing such an obvious URL as that until now. its really only their fault they neglected to snag it before then and now theyre whining like little girls about it.

It is worse as it's BF3, because it's MW3's closest competitor, if they're losing advertising to them it's obviously a problem.

They could have registered the domain but as all of the other games have been registered at domains such as InfinityWard.com and Treyarch.com, not by the games subtitle. Therefore I'm guessing they didn't think they needed to own the domain as they've not owned any of the other ones. Not ideal, but that's how it is.

They're not whining like little girls for not wanting to lose advertising.

well bottom line i feel is its just too bad so sad that they forgot\neglected to get that domain, and now they want it just because BF3 is there. also i dont think they are really losing that much advertising, everyone and their dog knows about MW3, they do several TV ads for it, everyones talking about it, so why do they need the domain now? its going to outsell BF3 anyway. if anything needs more advertising its BF3.

Yes they want it because BF3 is there, they don't want to lose advertising to their closest competitor. Surely that's obvious?

It doesn't matter that it's popular, it's still capable of having people look for it and be turned to BF3. And it's not really Activision's job to provide their rivals with advertising now

I think they thought EA could be behind it and needed to know who was doing it. If EA is doing it they can sue under the law
"Yeah, that makes sense. Stop making Activision the bad guy when they're doing what anyone else would do, even though they are pricks." for sure you got to protect your brand they own it and in other nations like japan/china they would be able to take ownership of the domain simply because they own the brand and that brand is the domain name. I think BF is really not the 2nd biggest shooter but Half life and source is. Shinobi_razor is right on the fact that if it was a other game chances are we would never hear about it because there is a bf vs mw that is going on with not just the game makers but the game players. so we might not have knew and they would not have. Star of Spurs is correct thought too, they use call of duty.com as the site for all cod games and they do not really go after blackops.com codblackops.com ect ect there is tons of ways it could go and there best way to do it is from there callofduty.com site. they are doing what they should do and what is within the law. The domain owner was braking the terms of there private name register.
