Believe it or not, Eidos' Ian Livingstone has revealed that the next installment for Tomb Raider is "well in development". Current speculation is leading to the title being a sequel to the well-received Tomb Raider: Legend.
Honestly, you would not believe it, but Eidos' Ian Livingstone has revealed to Spong that the next videogame featuring one of the industry's biggest cash cows, Miss. Lara Croft, is "well in development." Current speculation points to the next-generation Tomb Raider effort being the second game in the trilogy that began with Tomb Raider: Legend.
In related news, Livingstone went on to elaborate on the decision to move the development of the franchise from the UK's Core Design over to the San Fransisco-based Crystal Dynamics, saying that "...it was a difficult decision, but we had to do it, because of Angel of Darkness not meeting our expectations." Nothing to do with the fantastic weather over there, then?
GamerSquad thinks the Eidos man is putting it too lightly. Released in 2003 Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was touted as being the most ambitious entry in the series yet, with improved graphics and an involving storyline. However, it turned out to be the worst received title in the franchise so far, criticised for its poor structure and numerous bugs.
Not unexpectedly there were no concrete details about Lara's new outing to report, but its conformation certainly makes it something to look forward to. If you can't wait until then, you might want to check out the Nintendo Wii's Tomb Raider: Legend, which the game's producer recently boasted was the most realised entry in the series yet thanks to the console's wiggly-waggly controls.
