Ninja Theory had trouble fitting Heavenly Sword on Blu-Ray?

Linkin Park Fan | August 20, 2007 | News | Playstation 3
A Ninja Theory dev comments on a recent article stating Heavenly Sword had 10GB of audio. This was true, and they said they had a difficult time fitting the game all onto one Blu-ray disc layer. They were seriously considering putting the game on dual layer. Could this mean the next game will be on dual layer Blu-ray?
A developer from Ninja theory responds to the recent news about the developers using over 10GB of space for only Heavenly Sword audio.

The developers came very close to using a dual layer blu-ray disc because even with the size of the single layer blu-ray disc, they were having problems fitting all all of the game’s audio data onto a single layer blu- ray disc. According to the developer :

“We use a mixture of compressed and uncompressed, but lots were compressed for the reasons people have stated.
Make no doubt, fitting all the audio in and not stuttering and being the the highest quality we could get wasn’t easy, it was quite a problem even with the size of blu-ray. At one point we seriously considered dual layer Blu-ray cos of disk space issues.”

He further states that, as a result, the possibility of us seeing double layer blu-ray games should be really soon as , their first game for the PS3 almost occupied the whole space offered by a single layer blu-ray disc.

Ninja theory dev:

“Dual Layer BD is very real, as I said we very nearly became the first PS3 title to use it and this wasn’t just a random thought, it was seriously considered (including our publisher doing costing and manufacturing calculations).”

Um this isn't bad, and perhaps the next game will be dual layered. I actually think dual layer is best anyway.

What? Wow...how much dialogue, music and such is in this game? Must mean a better story than I assumed it to be, although my assumptions were already quite high.

Its basically a game to the same scale as movies i mean all the cut scenes were motion captured at the same movie studio as Lord of the Rings and King Kong movies.

Definitely an exaggeration...But I wouldn't be surprised if it is multilingual...

      10GB of Audio data? Nice

And yeah, there should be more games in the future with multilayer disks, particularly exclusives...

Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the first to be on a 50Gb disc, had Ninja Theory done this it would have reigned on Kojima's parade of having the biggest game ever lol.

Considering Heavenly Sword is already pushing the limits I think its safe to say that most newly announced games will now be double layered
