While not necessarily a single entity, Anonymous links hackers across the word with the goal of committing acts of civil disobedience online.

Most recently, the “AntiSec” hacking group — linked to Anonymous — claimed last weekend that it had “defaced and destroyed” the websites of scores of US police agencies in retaliation for the arrests of cyber attack suspects.

So can I start submitting a bunch of tech-related articles that have nothing to do with videogames?

God, people like this need to be put in jail and left alone. These guys are bringing out the conservative side in me... these idiots keep getting more and more ridiculous in their reasons to attack something.

ridiculous? This is a gaming website thought not a tech website. "GameGrep"
not sure how it is ridiculous to question news on a gaming website that is not gaming related.

"God, people like this need to be put in jail and left alone. " so freedom of speech and questioning things should be a jailable offense? that my friend is ridiculous.

Freedom of speech is fine, but you can't attack a person's livelihood like this. Besides, they're not only affecting the people who work for the companies they disapprove of, but also the millions of innocent consumers involved. It's not right.

If they "kill" Facebook or do anything similar, it's essentially the digital equivalent to burning down an office building just because you don't like the way they do business. Granted, no one will get physically hurt in this situation, but you're still destroying someone's property. It is and should be very illegal.

Anonymous are the kind of people that only focus on the business side of things, and not the ethics side of things. It's just like they did with PSN; they thought that Sony was doing business wrong, so they thought they were doing everyone a favor when they hacked it. Yet somehow they were blind to the fact that MILLIONS of people were no longer able to play online, something that only fuelled hate towards Anon.

In the case of Facebook, there are easily thousands upon thousands more who use it in comparison to Facebook. For some like myself, Facebook is one of the only ways to keep in touch with friends who have moved far away, and there would be global uproar should Facebook be "destroyed."

It's really like Anon is just causing havoc for the sake of it.

Drogo Baggins my comments above where reply to ShadowGuard who i assumed was speaking to me when he said that.. so i could be wrong and that then comments would be off so if true my bad.

i am with you guys that they are braking into systems digital or not it is the same and they should get jail time for this stuff for sure.

sony case is 1 of a kind think of it this way if a school had guards check for guns and weapons then where fired and then a school shooting happen it would be partly there own fault due to there actions.

that is the case with sony they fired there security team which was accountable for stopping this type of thing and making sure the patches where updated so no holes where there. if the software was updated this would have never happen.

Are you saying Sony fired their security team BEFORE the hacking took place?

I was talking about Anonymous, they need to be put in jail. If I were replying to you, my post would be indented underneath yours... like this one.

@Red 9 yes. sad but true. under us law that can be defined as negligible and accountable for it. there is a pending law suit about that. The hackers could not have done anything if the software was properly updated. The software could not be updated because the people in charge of that where fired. You can be sure they have a new larger security team now. lol. saving a buck today might cost you $10 tomorrow. two weeks before. law suit claims that and they have payroll to back that up. http://billionaires.forbes.com/article/04jK4vTgNj31Z?q=Sony
we all make mistakes no matter how big or small we are. the key is to learn from them move on and use it to make you better. Sony seems to be doing that and the free package they gave gamers that do not even pay for service is pretty good.

@RaidenXS thanks for a heads up so the story is a fake?

It's looking like it. I read up on other news stories and it's pointing in that direction. But with a lack of a defined leader (that we know of) who's to say it's not a rogue Anon team?
      • 0
        Lesley Pro_04 Aug 10, 11
That may be, but with or without a defined leader of an organization there's always the possibility of a rogue element.
