Ever thought that the Core unit of Microsoft's Xbox 360 is in danger of becoming a little unnecessary compared to the oomph of the 20GB Premium and 120GB Elite models? Well, if current chatter is to be believed, the olde Core could be on its way out... to be replaced by the intriguingly titled Xbox 360 Arcade.

In light of the hard drive-equipped Premium and Elite versions of the Xbox 360, many critics have questioned the very existence of the Core model of Microsoft's console. This is mainly because the Core is continually outsold by its stable mates and that the additional memory provided the Premium and Elite is necessary for Xbox Live downloads - and possibly even to run future games.

Well, if rumours are correct, then it could soon be bye-bye for good to the Core unit... and hello to the new Xbox Arcade model.

I saw this on another site and there's a larger image. The "arcade" part on the box looks like it was done in Paint.

To be honest whats the point the Core is the reason alot of the 360 games cannot use file caching, so replacing it with "Arcade" which also has no HDD is just as ludicris.

I hate how GameGrep displays stories that are pure speculation instead of actual gaming/hardware news.

Oh and Existenz it's ludicrous not...

Your point being. It doesn't matter we can still get what she means.

I hate how you bash every article that you don't seem to like. Its still news, and if you haven't notice this site is also for speculation and rumors.

It states, right there in the sample from the source article "if rumours are correct". So what's wrong with GameGrep publishing the story? It doesn't state it's fact.
