In an interview with IGN, Karl Magnus Troedsson, general manager at DICE, talks a bit about the changes made to destruction in Battlefield 3 and the lessons they've learned from past Battlefield games.

Destruction has become a huge part of the Battlefield franchise. It was first introduced in Battlefield: Bad Company and has since then, become a staple part of the franchise.

    It makes sense, seeing as how they're really building the single-player campaign this time. If they had completely destructible environments, you run the risk of creating situations where you can't progresss.

    That's actually a damn shame =/ But it still beats CoD's lack of destructible environments. Lol.

    I believe the only buildings you won't be able to fully drop are the ones with MCOM stations in. It was far too easy in Bad Company 2 for the Offensive team to just get a tank and destroy the building and MCOM station.. Made it super hard for the Defensive team to actually win.
