Why Video Games are Important.

Silver Mirror | August 26, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Wii Misc
Everyone on this site plays videogames, many people on the Internet play videogames, a large proportion of the human race does as well. But why do we play them? Here MyArcadePlanet examines just exactly why so many people play videogames.
When video games popped up in a recent conversation a relative of mine remarked “Why do you want to play a video game? Why not do something important?” Well, I believe video games are important. I obviously cannot call myself an unbiased party, since I love to play and watch others play games, but I will provide some reason that will be a bit more concrete then simply saying “dUDE! V1dEO 94Me5 roCK!”

Games are meant to inspire ideas and obsessive nature so that people can become capable of spending there life fixated and thus create cooler and better things.

    Or maybe that's just me.

Escape from reality. That's the best way I can explain their importance. People have sucky lives usually, and games are there to help us along the way, heh.

Video games are fun and they can entertain you for long periods of time. It can get rid of your anger or you can play away your sadness if you are sad. Video games also help you get away from the shit called life, but mainly, it's just fun and it pleases you, so why not play?

You probably haven't had a moment where you became so frustrated that you just wanted to chuck your controller at the TV.

    Why Video Games are Important.
They're important because otherwise I would have to spend of spare time studying or, god forbid, going outside and getting fresh air.

Video games are only important so that human beings can be entertained in-doors. They also bring you a new nature in your life.

Video games are important cause it helps keep the crazys from shooting their neighbors

But seriously, it helps get away from life so you can do something that takes your mind off, oh say getting a D on a test, or getting rejected by a girl you liked, or having to deal with a prick at school/ work.

It gives you immediate pleasure and adrenaline and stimulation of the senses. Most games are not that important in a societal context, at least compared to reading, maintaining relationships, studying, working, volunteering, pursuing a hobby, etc...
but games are improving. There are more important games that are beginning to emerge. Games that seek to improve your life physically or mentally or artistically. They have potential to reach a cultural value as cherished as classic books, films, paintings..

Video games have always be quite a major time-filler in my free time. I don't really use them to "escape from reality", I like reality the way it is, thanks. But being apart of many different fantasy universes, and getting involved with quests and storylines so epic that reality couldn't even dream of having, is quite simply said, awesome. Also online gaming can get you chatting to many cool people over the net, which is always nice.

I read in a magazine video games help boost the area of your mind that initiates strategic movements, and helps your hand-eye coordination and reflex with all that button pressing.
