PSU talked to a SCEI and they said that Gran Turismo 5: prologue will be a free download off PSN this holiday season. This is not the full game but a mere sample of what to expect. It will have online play, dozens of different cars and will be integrated with Home.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will apparently be a free download on the PlayStation Network when it is released. According to Yamauchi in a Gamespot Hands on, the game will be released as a free experience on the PSN later this year. We contacted SCEI, and they said

"Yes, it will be free for download on the PSN, and we are thinking of charging---but doubt it. For now it is free."

Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 promises to possibly be the most exacting and detailed racing video game ever. The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue gives you an online-enabled sampler of the GT5 experience. In the Prologue, will be dozens of different cars, and a few variety of environments to explore before the official games grand debut.

That's surprising... for some reason I don't think it'll end up actually being free.

That is very surprising...The quality of this game, with an online experience...for it to be free will be amazing

    They probably will do microtransactions.

Can any one else get on neo? cause I can't.

No I can't get on neo...

I can't see them doing Microtransactions... it was for that reason that they cancelled GT:HD, remember?

I can see the game being a £4.99 title, which they could get away with quite comfortably.

No I never knew thats why they cancalled GTHD for. Hell for around 8 bucks I'll buy it. I won't buy the full game because im not that big of a GT fan but Prologue would be fun.

Dammit, the internet is so boring without neo. Glad to see im not the only one.

My blinking PM icon is driving me crazy right now!

If it is free I will be surprised too. I can only see them doing it because they expect sales for GT5 to be boosted considerably.

Nice =D This would please fans, and give newcomers to GT a feel of the game...to try it out and see if they like it.

Yeah but it has a online, dozens of cars and tracks with inetegrated with Home. Its more like a arcade game actually.

I guess thats somewhat true too. I just can't see them charging twice for the same game, even though this isn't the full version. It would be like charging beta testers.

And the last Prologue i think for Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2 was a full priced game despite only being like a quarter of the full game, and considering the work that goes into each car, 6 months of work per car it is surprising that this is free.

Actually GT3 didn't have a prologue. You're thinking of GT4 Prologue which was'nt priced as a full game. It was 20 Euros cheaper if I'm not mistaken.

This is a clever move though. None racing fans now have literally no excuse not to try it out. After seeing the graphics many will buy the full game.
