It's been officially confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will feature multiplayer. But with Mass Effect being such a heavily story-driven, single player game, how will this tie in, and what effect will it have on the game itself?

My question is, will the multiplayer aspect have an effect on the single player game? And honestly, what is the goal of having Mass Effect 3 contain multiplayer? To create a feeling of greater replayability? To keep up with the latest trends? It should be implemented for the right reasons, otherwise it will feel very tacked on.

I remember reading an article awhile back saying EA has no influence over Bioware. This article proves otherwise.

Yeah, I agree. I prefer my Mass Effect single player, but even without that. This just reeks of EA, tacked on bullshit is something they do well.

it may be EA pushing, but Bioware wont just tack on a crap co-op campaign and shove it out the door. in fact going by the other article on here, it sounds pretty good. you create a character (not Shepherd) which can be whatever race you want and go through a separate story with 3 other players that has a direct affect on your single player campaign and/or vice versa. your character can level up, get abilities and get better junk just like in single player.

Co-op would be a nice way to go. Competitive multiplayer has absolutely no place in this game.

Even though technically it is a shooter.
