Borrowing its inspiration frome the hugely successful Pokemon series, and adding more than a hint of oddball director Tim Burton's stylish edge, Eidos is hoping to impress with its new 'gotta construct 'em all' Wii-based RPG, Monster Lab.

Here’s something: the Wii isn’t just about mini-game compilations. OK, it’s mainly about mini-game compilations. But not entirely. Case in point: Monster Lab, a new RPG for the Nintendo console from Eidos.

Due in Summer 2008, Monster Lab is described by developer Backbone as "Pokémon meets Tim Burton", and has players stepping into the shoes of one Professor Fuseless, who’s out and about to stop a motley group of monsters from being generally unpleasant.

I'm going to have to see more of this game before I can say anything about it. Right now I'm not liking the idea of a strange Pokemon rip-off.

Has Eidos even mentioned Pokemon being an influence for this game? or Tim Burton? It sounds more Monster Rancher-esq to me.

I seriously just want a Pokemon RPG on the Wii. One that has no actual story but to catch Pokemon, battle gym leaders and the like.

I agree im 20 and i still love pokemon, it was one or if not the best RPG for handhelds of all time IMO. Screwing around with it will ruin the feel.

sounds like they're just trying to spark interest for an otherwise uninteresting premise.

I actually take more interest in the Doctor Frakinstien side than the Pokemon side.
