Early Wiimote prototype actually looks quite good

mistermostyn | August 30, 2007 | News | Wii Gaming Tech/Hardware
The Wii Remote and Nunchuk, a classic piece of innovative design in anyone's book of reference. But what did the control combo look like before the final design?

GamerSquad has some interesting images of what they could have looked like. Kinda cool too!
Early prototype designs rarely look as good as the finished article - that’s why they’re prototypes, silly - though it has to be said we rather liked the look of this 2001 design for the Nintendo Wii's Wiimote and nunchuk.

I think that looks crap to be honest. Especially when you're trying to point with one hand and then move with another hand that has a portion sticking out of it. The new concept is much better.

I actually like this thing over the current one, it has a controller type look if it connects. It looks very cool.

Anyone else remember the Virtual Boy controller when looking at this?

In looks pretty lacking in terms of functionality. It seems much less useful than the current setup, really, and more difficult to use. It is interesting in concept, but really, that's about it. I'm glad it looks completely different now, and not only that but it has both an IR and another, completely seperate accelerometer.

So, this was the Gamecube peripheral that inspired Factor 5 to make Lair? Looks a bit like the current Sixaxis when attached.

It looks fun to use as a "classic" style controller, but a bit awkward when they are detached having that piece sticking out of the side.
