Rockstar San Diego Working On New Open World Game
10 hours 38 mins ago
With 2 years of hype...stunning visuals...and the talk of "new" gameplay, it was bound to happen. Although the story seems to be great it all boils down to a few key things...controls and a bad lock on system.
Many have feared that the mandatory Sixaxis was going to be the games downfall, and it seems to be exactly the case.
It was somewhere in the neighborhood of my fourth pass over a bridge filled with two warring factions and a bunch of evil rhinos that I went from thinking Lair wasn't that bad to wondering if Lucifer himself pressed this Blu-ray disc in the pits of hell.
See, the time had come for my Asylains to draw up a peace treaty with a group of neighboring bad guys called the Mokai, but when the peace process soured, a huge battle erupted and I -- Rohn, one of the best dragon-riding sky guards around -- needed to make sure our troops came out on top.
No doubt, that sounds interesting and fun; however, Lair's terrible controls and god-awful lock-on system make this a mission worthy of swallowing the business end of a shotgun to avoid.
...Sure, the FMVs are graphically impressive and so are parts of the gameplay, but there are lots of times I found myself rolling my eyes at what I was seeing on the screen -- I'm talking about tearing, square waves, a chugging framerate and water effects that look like sand.

I mean come on, MANDATORY SIXAXIS control? Thats not smart for a game like this >_>
I won't get this game...why? Because I HATE controlling characters with Sixaxaxis...sure, its fine in some games (like Super Rub a Dub and stuff), but the New Goblin in the Spiderman 3 game? Geh, its horrible trying to control him with the Sixaxis...
If they just gave people the OPTION of Analog control, it wouldn't be rated so low >_>
Some graphical/textural problems like mentioned, are ignorable...what, in their (and others) opinion, is a crappy control scheme, is NOT something you can just ignore...
My point is whats that got to do with six axis being mandatory.
The SIXAXIS is something new, different, so af course it will take time for people to get used to it. So, i am still going to buy Lair, one of my main reasons being the fact, that it's using the SIXAXIS..
You do know that the game the guy tested was the final version...IGN and other company's get the final game before it gets released so they can review them...it may not be out for you and I but what he reviewed was the final product.
I do know that now, after reading all the bad reviews, I am not picking up this game.
There is some people out there who dislike halo and bioshock saying it sucks but we all know its not. That guy doesn't know jack about games. He may like a different genre for all we know, this article is a load of crap anyway.
"Its not even out yet, and people are labeling it as a horrible game."
You're right, it isn't out yet, so how can you label it as an awesome game? By what you're saying, that simply isn't possible...
Just because someone gives a game a bad score doesn't automatically make them a bad reviewer, it just means they have a different opinion from you. If I rated Halo 2 a 7 while everyone else gave it a 9, it would just mean my opinion differs and that I have more issues with the game than others, nothing more. If the reviewer didn't know "jack" about games, he wouldn't be making his living by *bleep*ing playing them.
I am still excited about trying Lair out. I hope I like it better than what the other reviews are suggesting.
Besides, why shouldn't demos be released of all games, good or bad? People are always going to still buy those games that are considered "bad" and they might genuinely enjoy them too.
I'm still holding out on my opinion. I don't hate SIXAXIS but I don't love it either. I want to use it in Warhawk but I know I'd get *bleep*ed up online if I did so I think I might give Lair a try and see.
I'll wait to see what you say about it in the PS3 forum.
Why am I not surprised.
Dude, I have a PS3, and this was one of the exclusives I was highly anticipating. (along with Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, MGS4)
First Heavenly Sword gets negative reviews, and now this. I'm getting tired of all these Sony 'big holiday hitters' turning out to be busts. I swear, if Uncharted turns out to be bad, I will go crazy.
I'll admit I wasn't going to get Lair...at least not this year.
And by the way some sites have given Lair 7 or even 8 out of 10, so until you play it everyone just top saying how awesome its going to be or how its going to suck because we won't know until we play it
Are you seriously praising the failure of a game? Whats wrong with you?
lol you.
