It's because Microsoft are inept money grabbing morons and anything that rivals them will promptly get banned from being said/used.

Linux isn't an opinion, its an operating system and its pretty obvious why Microsoft would ban the name. Corny, albeit, but not really surprising.

Yeah....Linux is a competing (or rather alternative) OS, to the Windows Brand...

Its sorta like going into a 360 forum, and saying "I love the PS3!"...nothing good comes of it, you can't expect them to like it...

To them, Linux IS a bad word, lol

Good point but still its not like there saying XBL sucks and Linux rules though, and like Ameer said it's still Censorship. What happened to free speech. I mean XBL users i experienced with all said curses and etc yet this word gets baned kinda dumb.

      Ameer Sep 4, 07
It's still censorship. Are Sony and Playstation 3 filtered out too?

No, not even Macintosh is censored. I guess they only hate Linux.

I'm sure the word "Halo" was barred at one point. It's no big deal though.

Ah i see, thanks tek. However the beauty of hacking is anything can be crack no matter what MS can do. Thats the bad thing for all companies.

    Oh more info here

    It states
    quote
“Your motto contains inappropriate language. Please try again”
Thats not all according to this site http://www.qj.net/index.php?&pg=49&aid=101624&act=success
    It states this
    quote
Other people tried typing in the names of other rival companies and consoles to see if the names are banned as well, like Nintendo (which was not blocked), It's also interesting to note that typing Windows and Microsoft are banned in Microsoft's online gaming service.
So tell me this whats there motive now. It can't just be cause of linux.

Lol, they won't censor Macintosh, but apparently they detest Linux?

    That's a bit sad, IMO.
