Review Round-up: Medal of Honor: Airborne

mistermostyn | September 05, 2007 | News | PC Playstation 2
Does the stale WWII first-person shooter genre truly have enough room for yet another bullet-riddled tour of duty?

The Call of Duty developers have moved their series into modern times, but EA has chosen to remain in the 1940s with Medal of Honor: Airborne.

Will the new open, non-linear, and sandbox gameplay approach work for Airborne, or will it find itself grounded by bad weather that arrives in the form of crappy review scores? Find out with GamerSquad.
The videogame gurus over at IGN had the following to say about Medal of Honor: Airborne: "Medal of Honor: Airborne, while not perfect, is definitely the best game in the franchise to come along in quite a while."

Visit GamerSquad to see what other critical review sources thought of EA's next-gen WWII offering.

I think it's still going to be a WWII shooter. You can't escape that. WWII shooters are WWII shooters. Time to move on

Seriously, how are those guys not sick of World War II shooters at this point in life ? My god, I understand how the parachuting and the weapon upgrades can add a little more flavor to the game, but how many more Germans do you have to kill with a Thompson before you say, "Enough is enough" ?

The problem in the game is mostly the genre. It's been overkilled. WWII games are just dull now, and although Airborne is among the best due to the free-roaming cities, it is basically just another WWII game other than that. That's exactly what it was in the demo, anyway. If you aren't sick of WWII games, then Airborne is great. If you are, well, I guess you should just buy something else. I don't plan to buy Airborne.

It adds a little into the franchise, but after landing wherever you want, I noticed that the objectives not really much less linear than the rest of the MoH franchise. There wasn't much diffferent besides being able to parachute wherever you want.
