In an online petition to Square Enix to remake the ever so popular Final Fantasy VII, over 20,000 signatures (23,943 as of this post to be exact) have been signed.

The petition was sent in to Square Enix and their response from them however is not the best thing for a fan to hear.

Thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support,

We hope this letter answers your questions.

Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it’s just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.

We hope this information has been of assistance.

Thanks,
Neil- SQUARE ENIX Customer Support

    What were they expecting?

That's a bit of a redundant question. What do you think they were expecting with a petition to get Squeenix to remake FFVII? It's not rocket science here to figure out what they were expecting. :S

It's also not rocket science to understand that the very first reply back to a petition being sent isn't going to be "We're happy to inform you that your petition has worked and we are starting development on FF7 Remake!"

Their reply was professional and understandable. They left it open to happen but they didn't want to say "yeah we're going to do it" and then disappoint people later when it turns out they won't have time to do it.

Square Enix has already said they're devoting the majority of their time to FFXIII and i'm pretty sure everyone would rather see a brand new next generation FF before they see the FF7 remake.

Exactly what i have been stating for months now. They were expecting way to much. I say this is good news.

The question wasn't redundant at all. This record has been played and remixed a thousand times already. No petition at this point is going to 'manifest' FFVII for us. As already said, that was a professional reply and it was the best any fan could hope for at this point. They could have said they simply are not going to make it.

C'mon, it takes more than an online petition to make a company remake a game.

    Canned petition, canned response.

Another cog in the internet turns.

FF7, one of the greatest games ever made, yet compared to how great some of the others are, (6 anyone?) incredibly overrated. If they remade FF6, I would kick MS in the balls and go buy a PS3, just for that game. (And I'm one of the most adamant anti-Sony people around)

Internet petitions aren't exactly very effective anyway and personally I'd rather they concentrate on making new games such as FFXII and FFVersus XIII.

Agreed. They should stop looking at the past and start looking forward.

no, I'm sure they just sent that reply back to fans, but inside, they're really excited that 20,000 people online signed the petition. So they are going to make a card game for the DS with final fantasy VII characters, while the chocobo will be the main character. They will assign two people in their company to make this game with a funding of $100, then they will expect all you 20,000 fanboys to buy the game for $40 each.

SE has said before that when the time is right, there will be a remake.

Online petitions rarely have any effect, so I don't see why these people thought theirs would. *shrugs*

They're lucky they even got a reply. I personally think that was very polite of Squeenix to even bother answering the petition, especially saying: "This is not to say that it will never happen, it’s just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects", implying that they will make the remake, just not now. They've basically given the petitioners the answer that they want.
