2K Games announced yesterday that BioShock has become the fastest downloaded demo to hit the 1 million mark in Xbox Live history. It has also become the all-time top ranked Xbox 360 game and the year’s highest ranked game across all console platforms on Metacritic.com.

Publisher 2K Games has announced that BioShock is setting new records. First off, it has quickly become the fastest downloaded demo to ever reach the 1 million mark over Xbox Live. It was available to download on the Marketplace August 12th after a “surprise” announcement by Geoff Keighley on Spike TV. After only nine days of being released, the BioShock demo surpassed all the others in number of downloads. Secondly, it has secured the positions of all-time top ranked Xbox 360 game and the year’s highest ranked game across all console platforms on Metacritic.com.

Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K, said the following:

“We are really pleased that Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE Marketplace has managed to attract a record number of gamers to its site to download and check out BioShock. The overwhelmingly positive response is not only reflected in the traffic to Xbox LIVE, but the record breaking score reported by Metacritic. We’re excited about the reception the fans have given BioShock and are honored that the game has been recognized as ‘Game of the Year’ material.”

BioShock is an amazing game and one of my favorites, but can it stay the highest ranked game for long? Quite the amount of triple AAA titles being released soon…

Yeah well congrats. But If there was a Halo 3 demo i bet it would sold 2 times as many as bioshock. I think Halo 3 is the highest ranked game.

Wow so many downloads for a demo. And its a pretty short demo, but i guess the game's worth it.

I liked the demo. Wish I could get the game though. Only played a little bit of it with a friend.

Holy crap. I realized how a lot of people downloaded the demo was it was first released, but over a million ? Damn.

Makes sense, though. The demo kicked ass.
