Square Enix: "We hope to meet FFVII again" ... on PS3?

Gothic Girl | September 15, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Playstation Portable
As many Final Fantasy fans would know, the rumours surrounding the possible Final Fantasy VII remake have almost gotten to the point of being ridiculous. PS3 Tech Demos, new FFVII character models, confusing Square Enix interviews, and now a mysterious TGS poster sporting the words "We hope to meet FFVII again" ...

Will Square Enix ever put the fans out of their misery?
With the Tokyo Game Show approaching, Square Enix have flooded the fans with yet more remake rumours.

A new "secret video" from the FFVII prequel "Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core" has sparked fan's interests, showing a message saying "To be continued in Final Fantasy VII". Could this simply mean that fans should seek out the PSone game to continue the FFVII story? Or is it yet another hint at a possible remake?

But this "secret video" is not the only thing that has got fans talking. Square Enix have started revealing their TGS posters and advertisements, and with that is a new FFVII poster sporting the words "We hope to meet FFVII again". Yet more remake hints?

This along side other things has finally put me over, they have got to be making a FFVII remake, nothing else makes sense

I hope that they aren't working on the remake right now. I rather them work on Final Fantasy XIII, but it is obvious that they will work on a remake. If they don't I will hate SE for screwing with our minds >.

First, its obvious that they are working on FF13. Second, im pretty sure they have a few people looking into the FF7 remake thing. Also what i don't like is all this beating around the bush by SE. Either say they are making it or say no, cause this is the 15th rumor about this, 6 from SE that they are going to remake it. Even if its we will make it, but not at this moment it gives fans reinsurance that its going to happen.

It's typical for SE to not come out and say things. They are always "around the bush".

Also, I didn't say they weren't looking into FF7, I just rather them focus on FF13 more than a remake.

Yes and im pretty sure i said they were taking care of it. You make it sound like i rather have an unfinished new game and a remake, thats not realistic. Its pretty obvious there working on FFXIII. So we don't have to worry about it.

And its because "around the bush" Where people are getting pissed. I would rather have a confirmation that It will be remade than just keeping sending weird signals and hints of it. They might as well just say it.

          Hmm interesting point Charuzu.

I'd rather Square Enix focus on Final Fantasy XIII first, just like neto_360 said. After all, it is a new storyline.

@ finalblade: I don't want them to just work on FFXIII. They just "worked" on FFXII and look how that game turned out. I want them to focus on FFXIII, instead of worrying about a remake.

I'm not saying I don't want a remake or that they shouldn't do it. So don't go misreading my posts (again).

Um its the same thing, focusing and working are the same thing. Well in my case it is, FF12 was different and they decided to do some new things, in terms of that its a great game. In terms of a FF game probably not. So i don't see your point here to be honest.

Well your not understanding my post, what im saying is they should just flat out say "Ok we will remake FF7 but at this current stage it can't sue to new projects." That in no way mean they should be worried. So please don't misread my post. I haven't misread your post im just telling you your worrying that FF13 isn't going to be finish or not going to get worked on. And its obvious that they are working, focusing, whatever you like to call it.

Anyone can work on something, but when you focus, you put all your effort into it to make it good. SE worked on FFXII and forgot to put a solid storyline.

I'm not worried that the game won't get finished or be worked on. I know it will be, but I rather have them focus on the game. You pointed out the obvious. Of course they aren't going to do the remake right now. They said already that when the time is right, they will do the remake. Right now isn't the time and they should just focus on FFXIII.

I know but People in SE head quarters has been contradicting each other for months and years about this. Im saying they need to just say unanimously yes we will make it but not at this time, instead of all these hints and crap, thats all.

Again maybe to us it seems they didn't put a solid storyline but they took a chance on a different path and in its own rights it was a good game, but not a FF game im used to. So to them it had a awesome storyline. Same as DOC, to us the game lacked and wasn't that great but that cause we were comparing it to the other FF games, especially FF7. But in its own rights it was pretty cool. To SE they liked it i bet. So your interpretation of Working and Focusing could be entirely different to them. I think we need to leave SE to make the game good, i know its going to be good, i have a good feeling about it.

Also when did i say or this say they should focus on a remake now, i think your just thinking thats what there going to do and not thinking whats going to happen. SE isn't going to scrap and not focus on FF13 and focus on FF7 remake thats what im saying and your not understanding.

I never said you or the article was saying that. I said that I hope they aren't focusing on a remake right now.

I never said they were going to scrap FF13. God you need to shut up and stop putting words in my mouth. I don't see how you can think this when I clearly state what I think. Please do everyone a favor and stop trying to "be right" on everything. I don't see why you have to question what everone says ALL the time.

Alrighty then. Things are looking up to me. Everybody is discussing the cryptic message of:

    quote
We hope to meet Final Fantasy VII AGAIN!
but what has me stoked about it is the picture they have of Cloud taken straight from the tech demo on that poster/whatever. I may be misreading that, but it has me hopeful. I just hope they aren't bastards and decide to lead us around the idea a few hundred more times before confirming or denying it.

Thats my point thanks you, they need to finalize yes or no now. Beating around the bush and making hints and stuff isn't going to make us or them feel better.

Pehaps, considering the "Hoping" part, they are just looking into it, and want to see how people respond to it...

If it gets enough attention, they might go ahead and make plans to remake it...

I'd buy it, of course, if only because I didn't finish the original version for the PS1...

But yeah, I'm sure they are focusing on finishing XIII (all iterations of it), for now at least...near the end of that game's (all versions of it) development, they'll probably start ironing out all the details for a VII remake...

If Squeenix don't think that the current attention the remake is getting is "enough", then I'll be buggered if I know what they do consider "enough" attention.
Hell, it's been getting more attention than all the FFXIII games put together.

They love to keep us in suspense, don't they? I'm sure that they are half-way done with a FFVII remake on the PS3...why else are they moving slowly with FFXIII?
    • -1 thumbs!
      Final Blade | September 17, 2007
Um there moving slowly cause of the space of BD and making sure its good, it has nothing to do with the remake(even im sad to say this). They don't want to rush a game like FF13 that is getting a big hype and a suppose multi-million System Seller. And thats a good approach, in doing so there utilizing the PS3 features. Not all of it but a nice portion. Also go to the FF13 multi-platform thread in the FF13 forums and read on what there doing on the game.

I have Crisis Core. This 'secret ending' isn't a secret, first off. It plays right after the credits. It's more of an homage to VII's ending, showing events of the future, this one simply rehashes the tech demo stating "to be continued in Final Fantasy VII". Honestly, looking at the way this cutscene plays out from a director's standpoint, it's not trying to sell a remake at all. It's simply concluding the events of Crisis Core (which, if you never played FFVII, will CERTAINLY leave you very very pissed the hell off), by getting the message across that the story simply continues in Final Fantasy VII.

Since i've pretty much had to copy and paste the following in over a handful of forum sites on the subject of the remake, might as well drop it into greppage too.>>>

"They'll go for quick and profitable. You see, a remake of Final Fantasy VII, a full on remake that is, will require a HELL of a lot of money. On top of that, they are well aware that it can make, or finally break, their reputation. If it fails to meet up to the standards that VII set, especially in remake form (given the capabilities of next gen machines), then it's the knockout punch against the developer/publisher's lax attitude *quality wise* in the past several years.

If it's to break the limits again, it really needs all their best. As that, I strongly doubt their current team (most of the original backers have long since left the building) is even capable of pulling the remake everybody (especially critics, the ones who stand to hurt Square the most) want to see.

So that said, if anything, it'll get the "Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth" treatment. A streamlined version of FFVII (VII already exists on the PSP through PSX Emulation Mode), with visually enhanced pre-rendered cutscenes, and possible world model tweaks. Maybe even battle model tweaks, but keep in mind, they can't work on the entire bestiary for model improvements.

Now one enormous selling point here: Add features that were left unfinished at the time of the original release - yet at the same time can't be left to contradict their 'new additions' to the VII universe (those assholes never should have made it canon).

The quicker 'slight' revamp is very cost efficient, and can do it's own magic by boosting their profits. Also, it's portable nature would act as a shield against rabid criticism - especially given the fact that the PSP seems to be a forgotten system by the big wig critics out there. It can essentially do its bit of flying under the radar, hitting big with audiences before the full wrath of 'professional' reviewers take pot shots at its failing, and encourage them (based on standard audience feedback) to point out high points instead.

Plus, it's something Sony can stand behind as it being something that would help sell the PSP system."
