PS3 controller rumbles into the Tokyo Game show !

Cruxis Mana | September 19, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Tokyo Game Show 2007
PS3 fans have been waiting for this for awhile now, but the PS3 now officially has a rumble controller ! ... and theres also a chance that the Metal Gear Solid 4 demo will feature rumble as well ^^
We've known it's been coming for a while now, but now it's completely official: the PS3 will soon offer a rumble controller !!
It's expected that along with a PS3 price drop for Japan, Kaz Hirai will be revealing the new PS3 rumble controller at his TGS keynote (later tonight U.S. time). Sources have also indicated that one of the big reveals may be that the playable Metal Gear Solid 4 demo will include rumble functionality. Those who have tried the controller spoke positively of it, saying that it's a bit heavier than the current Sixaxis.

It would have been cool if they didn't announce it but just put the new rumble controller in with all the PS3's there to play and have every game use it and then the people playing the PS3 demos would probably be very surprised at first.[/runon]

Yeah, that would have been a cool move.

This would be a great deal more exciting if we hadn't known it for half a year...

Well they pretty much did, the press got a huge shock when they played Burnout Paradise and the controller rumbled, they were perplexed the controller was the same SIXAXIS they all had at home and on closer inspection it had a sticker on it marked RUMBLE, Burnout Paradise will (delays not affecting) be the first PS3 game to retail with rumble features.

What I like, is that they're using the TouchSense rumble from immersion, which, if used right, is like rumble version 2.0...more options available to it, beyond simply giving you a physical jolt...

Well, I don't have enough money for these with all the games coming out. It might be a few years before I ever get these. I already have two regular ones.

Luckily I held of buying a second handset because I knew that it was only a matter of time before TouchSense SIXAXIS controllers became available.

aw man, yeah, I was holding off actually BUying a PS3 at all until it came bundled with these rumble babies.. but with no sufficient FPS on the ps2, i couldn't resist.. then i held off buying a second controller at least, but I couldn't stand having my friends or I just sit on the side as one guy plays alone.. I had to get a second one.... Sigh.. If they really utilize this TouchSense well, I might sell one of my controllers and get it.. but if it's too expensive, or just like last-gen rumble, i'll pass.

Sweet. Will these rumble controllers be included in current PS3 packs, or will we have to buy them separately? ¬¬

I think you'll have to buy them seperately.

There goes Logitech's rumble controllers...well not to mention that the controllers were obsolete to start with...as they had no tilt sensors and barely any game included rumble features. And of course, I would've been happy to know about this...except for the fact that it comes in Sping 08...

I'm actually not bothered about Rumble. After 5 years of playing the PS2 I barely even noticed the pad shaking anymore.
