Yesterday, Aeropause.com carried a story about five ways to improve PS3 sales. Today they have a follow up article, this time focusing on five ways to stimulate demand for the 360. Their changes include:

1. Hard Drive Issue 1
2. Hard Drive Issue 2
3. Better Backwards Compatibility Schedule
4. Market the Connectivity of the Device
5. Allow for Game Development on the HD-DVD Attachment

While the 360 came out of the gate with decent success, the console has stumbled as of late and sales are somewhat stagnant after almost two years on the market. While some have talked about the Halo 3 effect on sales, I believe it will be a short term impact.

Allowing game development on the HD-DVD drive would probably decrease 360 sales if anything...

Because I know for a fact millions of consumers want to buy a system that requires another £120 of pay in order to play games... Maybe not.

I don't know anyone who bought a 360 to play Xbox 1 games. It's just simple bonus, nothing more.

I'm oblivious to the "hard drive" issues. So I got nothin'.

Not many people buy game consoles for their connectivity, once again, just another bonus that isn't needed.

Forcing HD-DVD would decrease sales if anything. They're already allowing some manufacturers to force Hard-drives to be required, but forcing the HD-DVD would kill any chances.

Backwards Compatibility of a high percentage should be required. I mean god damn, it's *bleep*ing ridiculous if they're not.

No one wants to keep around extra hardware just to play old games, that would just create clutter.

True, no one bought a 360 to play XBOX1 games, but they did buy a 360 expecting to play their old XBOX1 games if they so chose on their new 360.

This ignores the ongoing disputes between MS, NVIDIA and ATI/AMD though.

Emulation probably wouldn't be so bad if they were running NV hardware, it does get complicated when some games are either poorly written or use exclusive NV calls. To try and think that developers didn't go to those extents would be silly. You're given the specs on a piece of hardware, if you plan to get the most out of it you need to exploit every technical aspect you can get out of it.

If you read up on Carmack and the Xbox at the time you'd see an example of how the GPU was explored to find any shortcuts they could to gain extra speed on things.

So yeah, more compatibility would be nice, but getting NVIDIA and ATI/AMD to play nice together seems to be just about impossible right now.
