Devin Moore, 18 at the time, was being held on suspicion of auto theft in June 2003 when he wrestlee a gun away from officer Arnold Strickland. He then shot and killed Strickland, officer James Crump and dispatcher Ace Mealer.

Despite being unable to use the defense in his trial, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has agreed to hear oral arguments in the matter. Moore's attorney is claiming that while in a dissociative state, Moore reverted to "scripted behavior" influenced by his exposure to the Grand Theft Auto games and abuse suffered during his childhood.

When he was arrested for the murders, he was reported to have said, "Everybody has got to die sometime." The statement was amended in December 2004 during a court motion which claimed the actual statement was, "Life's a videogame. You've got to die sometimes."

What, and you think he's mentally stable with a mindset like that? I can understand resorting to "scripted" behavior, but to say that it is because of a videogame is just ridiculous. If someone is that impressionable, they shouldn't be playing games in the first place

I guess it's reasonable.. not that it releases him from punishment,, but what's to keep anyone from saying it was scripted behavior gotten from video games or movies or literature. He could just as easily have said "Life is like books, everyone has to die sometime"

GTA MADE him do it? Unless the head of Rockstar and/or Take Two Games personally held a gun to his head and told him to kill the police officers, I'm not buying his side of the story.

"Life's a videogame, you've got to die sometimes" doesn't seem like a likely thing to say

And today's lesson is: Never play any games that influence you to kill other people. This is bad.

I severely hope that was sarcasm.

Video games don't make people kill people, stupid people make people kill people. That was proved in that story where the kid got murdered for playing video games.

Lawyers will bring up any excuse they can to get their clients off or lessen the sentence. It seems they have moved from "my client was insane at the time" defences to "video games made my client do it" defenses.

Yup, this is just a less effective version of the "race card". Oh and I'm like 90% sure that someone was arrested and said that exact quote like 2 years ago. I remember using it in a school report.

Oh my goodness, leave games alone and think up other ways to help save your client you dumb lawyers, instead of crying out GTA DID IT I SWARE. T__T.
