Today at TGS, Sony announced how much they have sold with there Playstation systems. So far the Playstation 2 has sold 120 million units. The Playstation Portable has sold 26 million units. And what about Sony's newest system, the Playstation 3? It has sold about 5 to 6 million units. Very close to 6 million units. Sony is planning to sell 11 million Playstation 3's by the end of the year.
It's keynote time, and that means it's number time.
So where do the PlayStation platforms stand? PS2 is sitting pretty at over 120 million units sold. PSP is at a respectable 26 million sold, with 30 million expected to be surpassed shortly.
So where does that leave PS3? According to Kaz, PS3 has sold in between 5 and 6 million units, leaning slightly towards the 5 million end.
Expectations are high for the holidays however - Sony expects to reach 11 million PS3's by the end of the year. We reckon reaching that goal without a price cut will be a challenge and perhaps even miracle.
We'll keep you updated on sales of all PlayStation platforms as the year progresses.

s lifespan.
The PS3 is doing just fine, it just looks bad compared to a $400 dollar cheaper console and a console that's been out for almost 2 years now.
That's the only real hurdle anyone faces. You could sell 18 million units in a year but if your ratio is awful then whats the point for companies to produce titles or anything for it. All 3 of them have to concern themselves with this since it's the first year that all of them are fighting it out.
Edit- sorry I looked at the magazine I got that information from and apparently it was only in Amercia. I don't know which year it was because the magazine is really old. Still the PS3 is selling better than the PS2 did to begin with
"As of March 2007, 117.89 million PS2 units have been shipped worldwide"
So go ahead and do the math for me, around 6 million times 7 years. Yeah you can go ahead and serve your words up on a plate and eat them now.
I'm shocked that finalblade in all his lack of statistical evidence missed that one.
