Jack Tretton Speaks On Why You Need A PS3

SCEA president Jack Tretton tells everyone why they should have the PS3 console now, because its "future proof".

The first PlayStation lasted for 10 years and the PS2 will soon reach that mark, Jack predicts the same thing will happen for PS3.

The original PlayStation lasted 10 years -- a tremendous innovation when other platforms died and were all but forgotten," Tretton told us in a recent interview. "The same thing is going on with the PS2, and I think that will be the case with the PS3."

He went on to say, "I don't think we expected nor we need to capture the lifecycle of the PS3 in the first nine months. We want to build evangelists, one consumer at a time, and it involves sacrificing in the short term before paying off in the long term."

    I wasn't paying attention when I read the title and I thought it said Jack Thompson. I got all excited and clicked the link. Damn.

    And yeah, over time, hopefully this will smooth out.

    It is already smooth, the PS3 has sold more in its first year than the PS2 and PS1 combined and is looking set to get close to 10 million sales by year end, the PS3 right now is looking alot stronger than its other next gen counterpart at the same point in its lifespan.

    Well it ain't like he's going to say, "The PS3 is a piece of crap." Give me a price drop, and an array of amazing games, and maybe, just maybe I'll buy one.

    We've already had a price drop in Amercia and its likely there will be another worldwide one soon. As for the games where have you been? Warhawk and Heavenly Sword are already out and are both amazing games. Ratchet and Clank and Haze are also near release. Not to mention Unreal Tournament 3

      They only did the price drop for the 60 GB models, which they're getting rid of. That's not a price drop, that's a clearance sale.

      He does have a point though. No matter how well the PS3 is doing this moment, they built it up so it will survive for quite a bit of time.

    Reason to buy a PS3...MGS4. No need for any other reason then that. Reason not to buy a PS3 because I r broke. Also I'm very happy with my 360.

    so I should buy a PS3 because it will last for 10 years? Thats not much of a reason, after all my Super Nintendo still works =)
