Michael Pachter. believes that Little Big Planet is a console seller for Sony, since its innovative and has a family element that Sony lacks in their games. He also adds that if Sony can make a price cut or cheaper SKU's with Little Big Planet game launch you could get a big spike in sales.

And Pachter thinks if Sony doesn't make a price-cut this holiday they might not meet there target of 11 millions worldwide sales.

Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet could be a driving force in improving PlayStation 3 sales early next year, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz from the Tokyo Game Show, Pachter said the highly-anticipated game from the makers of Rag Doll Kung Fu should appeal to a family audience - something that Sony and rival Microsoft have so far failed to capture with their next-generation machines.

"After seeing LittleBigPlanet at TGS, I believe it could be a console mover," commented Pachter.
"The game is really innovative, and I think it adds a family element that is so far missing from both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. If they can accompany that game's launch with a price cut (or a lower priced SKU), I think we'll see a spike in sales," he added.

I completely agree. LBP is a game to look out for. It's going to do better then a lot of people think.

Not that don't think this will be a great game, but I wouldn't push it on selling a ton of systems because of the family aspect of it. Wii has the family market on lock and it doesn't look to be loosening up anytime soon. I just don't see too many mothers and/or fathers buying such an expensive piece of hardware as compared to one that's much cheaper and gets the kids moving around.

I agree. Though it looks like a pretty cool thing to have, stunning graphics engines aren't really needed for the family interactivity thing to go on. Having said that, you have the PS3 and Wii vying for the family market at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of expensive technological advancements. The thing is, though, that the Wii is purposely cheap and aims exclusively at it.

I'd never heard of any Sony plans to make it a family console before, whereby Reggie has been going on about Wii's family plans ad nauseum for years.

Having said all this though, it seems a shame, as LBP does look very cool. I do not think it will be a family friendly enough gimmick to cause families to overlook the price investment though. Maybe if they halved the price and advertised it more as a BluRay player. As well, the PS3 has few commercialized "killer apps" that are family-friendly.

Yeah, not to mention the user-creation features might be a bit too over complicated for the rest of the family as well.

11 million sales is a lot in my opinion. Maybe they should aim for a little bit lower sales. We'll see what happens if they get their expected ammount of sales, but I don't think they will accomplish it.
