PGR4 For The PS3? Likely Thanks To Activision

Krunal | September 26, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
With the merger of Bizarre Creations by Activision, Bizarre Creations, one of the largest independant developers in the UK is no longer independant. However, this is far from bad news, as this means that the PGR series is no longer restricted to the XBOX platform, and future versions could very well be appearing on the Playstation 3, Wii or even PC.

The merger will see Bizarre Creation having the same freedom as before, except this time with support from Activision, which can only mean one thing - better games. And with two new AAA titles in the works for Activision, (one being a racing game, and the other a character game), it's hard not to think that the first game may very well be PGR5 for multiple consoles.
Both of our two main game teams are about to start work on two new AAA titles for Activision. One will be a racing game, and the other a character game. Of course we'll make some more detailed announcements in the future, but be prepared for something big and exciting!

Funny, wasn't Micrsoft Game Studios publishing these games previously?

That's the whole point, with Activision publishing the games, they can actually put it on more consoles (since I doubt we'll see Microsoft publishing a game for the PS3 anytime soon).

Indeed so, but with MGS titles, they only need to lend exclusive rights publishing that title to the console. Nothing restricts them from going to another publisher, it's generally the case that through MGS the buyout is the title of the moment not the company as a whole.

If that was the case there would be numerous groups under the MS label. It's an interesting way to hold 2nd party grouping when for the most part it generally doesn't exist these days.

This could happen, but unless the devs have a loyalty to the 360, it could not. Same as MGS.

Why would they have loyalty as such to Microsoft? Sure they developed games for the system, but wasn't that just because they were publishing it, and they wouldn't publish on a non-microsoft console? With a chance to make MORE MONEY and have no worries about publishing the titles, they can make the game on multiple platforms. Whether they will or not is another matter in its entirety.

As the game has been on Microsoft platforms, non-Xbox/360 users have never played the series, and thus most are not likely to purchase.

Besides, with GT5 coming out on PS3, PGR4 wouldn't matter much.

Since when does a racing series correlate to the past games? On that note, if PGR4 IS coming on the PS3, who says it will arrive the same time as GT5?

That's like saying, just because DMC was on the PS2, non-PS2/PS3 users wont have played the series and thus are not likely to purchase the game, which we know is not true, as most people will buy it just to see what the fuss was about, and PGR is one of those types of games.

Following yesterday’s announcement of the acquisition of Bizarre Creations by Activision, everyone wondered what will happen to the Project Gotham Racing series. Is it destined to follow the same path of RalliSport Challenge after EA bought Digital Illusions?

Microsoft has announced that it plans to continue the Project Gotham Racing series on the Xbox platform since Microsoft Game Studios owns the intellectual property. However, the publisher didn’t clarify if Bizarre Creations will be the developer of future PGR titles.

Does this mean that Microsoft's Turn 10 studio, the developer of the Forza series, might take on the job?
