PSP slim outsells DS in Japan

Silver Mirror | September 27, 2007 | News | DS Playstation Portable
Nintendo have recently been the guys to beat in Japan with both the DS and the Wii flying off the shelves. But recent sale figures suggest the PSP slim may have just knocked them off the throne. The two top selling videogames are both on PSP. And the PSP slim itself outsold the DS by almost 4 to 1. Click link to see the rest of the list.
The latest sales figures are in and the release of the PSP Slim has completely wiped the floor with the competition this week, giving Sony the lead for a second week running. Check out the software list below, and the early hardware figures:

Not really that shocking considering the PSP slim is a new piece of hardware...

Thats only because Sony had japanese models advertising the PSP Slim! If they didn't then hardly anyone would buy it. It's not really that good anyway, all it is is brighter and slimmer, like the NDS Lite (Which i'll never get)

      Screw the Japanese models.
Squeenix knew how to sell the PSPs properly. 77,777 were sold in one day, just because they tacked a Final Fantasy image on the back of each one, and called it the "limited Final Fantasy edition" PSP slim. Now THAT's good promotions

Can't really blame the fans at all...You can bet that if there was a PSP with a Metal Gear Solid skin, I'd buy that beauty...even though I already have the original model.

Japanese buy new flashy Sony product that is somehow tied to Final Fantasy...America not surprised. :/

Big Willie is right again; the DS has alright sold an astonishing amount. Release a new slim version with some Squeenix game branding and watch them fly off shelves.

Hm, I may have to buy one of these. I really want the KH game for it, so I may pick either one of these, or a regular PSP. The pricing does seem pretty high, I'll have to think about it. Anyway, about the topic, like Big Willie said, it's not very suprsing, as it's new and there's lots of people likely to purchase one.

Erm well it's a new product, it's been turned into a wanna be DS Lite instead named Slim 8-). Rip off much?

Also I mean putting anything Final Fantasy on anything that can have a sticker on it is auto sell in Japan. You could like stick a FF7 sticker on a piece of crap and it'll sell T_T. Honestly >>.

The only reason they sold more is because everyone and their mothers already own a DS so they are obviously going to start selling less and less.

With the exception that it's better than the original PSP in terms of tech specs/size in everyway AND it comes with a game, but hey, at least you made a fool of yourself. =)

Now if you see a couple of comments above, you'll see the EXACT SAME THING they said, rip off, much?

    Also, you forgot to add:

"And I base this on absolutely nothing!"

Hey, douches, article after article it's all about Nintendo outselling basically everything, why the *bleep* do you guys have to break out when there's good news about the PSP, the godamned audacity of you people.

Well, the PsP has some pretty cool games, but the DS is starting to make some really amazing games like the new Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I think that is going to boost the Nintendo DS sales in Japan.
