Bungie Leaving Microsoft!

ITANI | October 02, 2007 | News | XBOX 360 Company
The article creator has a friend who works at Bungie and he submitted the article creator an email saying Bungie is leaving Microsoft and the email also features reasons to why this is happening. It seems that Bungie are basically Microsoft's slaves. Microsoft is not allowing them to work on any other different project that's not to do with the Halo series and Bungie dislikes this. Even though this is still a rumour the article creator also adds that he has full faith with this contact of his.
"Apparently MS just wants Bungie to make Halo for the rest of their natural days, and Bungie doesn't like how MS is constantly trying to "handle" everything they do; the way they market their games, the way they interact with their fans (basically the fact that they do appreciate their fans), and how stingie they are with the profits (comparable to the rest of the industry). So as of today they are their own independent entity. They'll probably make Halo 4 for Microsoft, however hey are also free to create new intellectual properties for whatever system they want. (Even though they prefer the xbox platform)"

A friend of mine who has someone close to them that works at Bungie has just been dying to tell me a secret about their future.
Ah, yes. Because "a friend" of an employee will always know what's going on with a company.

Until I hear it straight from Bungie or Microsoft, I'm not believing shit.

How exactly are they "free to create new intellectual properties for whatever system they want" when Microsoft owns Bungie?

They'd have to disband bungie and then set up a new game studio. Different name and everything. Also they said that Halo 3 is the final Halo besides Halo wars. I think they probably could start a new ip.

No, they've stated that Halo 3 is the last of it's story line.

You're crazy if you think that's the end. Simply crazy. They're not going to abandon a series so popular. They will definitely change the name and continue the story but probably without Master Chief.

I'm speaking like this is true. This article said they want to start new IP's. The fact is that they can easily just end halo now in the hight of it's popularity. It'd be like Hendrix... he died in his prime. But the point is that they can start a new IP part of microsoft or not.

Snap; that's good for Bungie though, it can go on and be it's own company now rather then being Microsofts little slave dog =[. I'm excited to see what other projects they work on because now they'll have you know.. some free will =[. It's like Microsoft turned off the free will option in a Sim game for the Bungie company xD.

Does this mean the end of the Halo series? No Halo 4?

Not at all it just means, if true Halo 4 could be a PS3 title though if true it shows that Bungie don't want to make Halo anymore and Microsoft are forcing them to.

I'm loving the title "Bungie Leaving Microsoft!" when this is just a rumour. What a difference a question mark or an exclamation mark can make -_-

Rumours. People eat them up like a daily breakfast now-a-days. I wouldn't mind seeing Bungie hit up something big other than Halo, though.

Yeah right now Bungie look like a one trick pony... Yes they made Marathon but anyone that says they have played that game before it hit Xbox Live Arcade is chatting about as much bullshit as a gamer that says they were with Elder Scrolls from the first conveniently after playing Oblivion... Bungie need to do something new and fast, they need a new platform too *hint hint*

Marathon was actually popular before it hit xbox live believe it or not.

I don't think they are a "one trick pony" but even if they are it's a hell of a trick. Smashing records left and right. Hideo Kojima's done a very similar thing with MGS and no one calls him a "one trick pony"

Whether this is real or not, it would be good to leave and work on other stuff. Since Halo 3 is finally out, it's practically done. And they can make other, wonderful (and perhaps better) games to give Bungie a bigger, better name instead of just "the guys who made Halo."

All I can say is- if its all true, good for them. I wouldn't want Microsoft commanding me to set my efforts solely on their cash cow. I'll be interested in seeing how this turns out. Heh...
